Thursday is now a distant memory but as far as I can remember I went to a seminar on Robert Frost to which I contributed nothing except saying he had a stupid voice when we listened to a reading of his. Me, Jay and Matt then proceeded to tidy the entire house (even the toilets!). Matt had been letting the two new episodes of lost load on his laptop since the mid afternoon so at about half 6 me and Elsa joined him to watch it. The usual format of having a real time plot with flashbacks has been abandoned for an insane veering from one time and place to another from scene to scene. Not only this but the Island itself has started to time travel and the characters themselves never know when it is. For the first time, Lost looked pretty stupid to me. It has started to resembled stupid sci-fi shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the X Files. Certainly much less shit but just as dumb. I woke up on Friday at about 8 to find Danny wondering around already washed and dressed which was a bit surreal. Work was dead; Jayne had come back from a week off and said that the day before the store had taken only £40. This coupled with the radio informing me that the country is now ACTUALLY in a recession was kind of worrying but I'm beginning to accept that I won't have any kind of financial security by the time I'm 35 anyway. In fact that age has started to feel like a deadline, as though things will not get be ok until the 15th of march 2033. What a scary date. There was a slow trickle of customers coming in from the rain throughout the day so we were bored but unable to just fuck about with the excuse of their being no public to impress. Jayne wanted to talk about professional wrestling all day. I complied because it'd a fun thing to talk about but she has a complete inability to converse. She holds a conversation still, any time you link the subject to anything else, such is the conventional development of dialogues, she ignores that and takes it back to where you were 10 minutes ago. After work I spent 50 minutes (and £25) trying to do my first ever all veggie shop. This is not an attempt at dieting or even eating healthier but simply a desire to vary what I eat so I'm throwing myself in at the deep end. I can see myself being very hungry. I said hello to everyone at home and made spaghetti with spinach, yoghurt, onions and feta. It turned out quite well if a bit sweet. Within an hour I was grumbling with hunger so I tried to make a Spanish omelette but fucked it up enormously. It was more brown scrambled eggs and chips than anything else. Eve and Aisha arrived from London a little while later and everybody sat in the living room. The remote control has been mislaid so we sat watching what Brett wanted to watch (My Name is Earl and Friends...it was a magical hour). At almost 10 o'clock we went out to the pub. We tried the 7 stars first but it was occupied by chavvy middle aged people dancing to nasty old pop tunes. Jolly Sailor was even more packed but everybody had swarmed into one area, leaving the back room empty. A pretty standard affair at the pub.
I would detail the rest of the evening but I need a shower.
