Compass Fest - will it work?
here's the plan. sometime at the beginning of next summer, i have a real bona-fide plan.
4 gigs.
4 nights in a row.
London.
North, South, East, West and Central.
i'm thinking the plan goes thusly:
Friday Night: East London, probably The Rhythm Factory in Whitechapel, 4 bands
Saturday Afternoon: West London, Notting Hill Arts Club, ROTA show (so free entry), 4 bands
Saturday Night: Central London, Somewhere, Punk/Indie/Emo/Punk Rock/Whatever clubnight (Hospital Radio DJs, i reckon)
Sunday Evening/Night: South London, Brixton Windmill, BBQ and 5 or 6 bands
Monday Night: North London, Lark In The Park in Islington, 4 bands
basically, if i can do it right, i can get at least 3 of the venues for free - Windmill (because i can), Notting Hill (although this is free entry so paying for bands will have to come out of ticket price for other shows) and LITP (free hire on Mondays apparently), and then maybe approach Big Cheese about sponsoring the clubnight to help out with a Central London venue hire price. i'd sell individual gig tickets or full weekend ones (obviously not to ROTA) and generally try and make it a proper London celebration of brilliance. there's nowt that goes on here that's special, so if it's up to me to do it, then so bloody be it.
i reckon it could work (maybe have a pop punk day, punk rock day, indie rock day, 'other' day - or, totally mix the bills up), but i wouldn't want bloody Big Cheese taking over (or anyone that i ask for sponsoring help, like work or another label) and it wouldn't be all Leeds bands neither. i'd just try make it a cross between a PT bash and OOS, just without all the bands from those things that i think are dog poo.
thoughts?
