professors

Today was kind of interesting in my first three classes...somehow I was paying attention to not just what my professors were saying, but how they were saying it and what they were doing in relation to the students that made them successful. I guess my brain is kicking in for general methods.

My first professor, for Macroeconomics, is amazing. She gets you interested in economics, makes it relevant to life, and makes you feel like she cares about your learning. I think her questioning skills are good, and that's a part of what it is. If you're almost there, she lets you know that, and she asks the right questions to drag it out of you. She uses a lot of positive reinforcement. In her class, I want to succeed, I want to raise my hand, I want to get it.

My second professor, for English Origins of American Law is eh. He takes the straight-up lecture approach, making zero effort to interact with the students. He has trouble making what he says clear or interesting. I mean, I've had worse lecturers, but...eh.

My third professor, for Western European Politics is kind of a random mix. He's charismatic, interesting, and easy to follow, but his questioning skills could be improved. His questions aren't specific enough to know what he's looking for, and if you give it a try he's just like "eh, not really." So you feel dumb, and don't want to raise your hand again. We're kinda sitting there guessing.

Usually I don't think about how well my professors teach; I just go and learn it, then leave. That was an interesting moment for me.

Oh! And now all three books I ordered online have arrived. Yay!
