So Adam and I went to Pittsburgh this past weekend and visited my dad and his wife Laura, and my aunt Donna and uncle Jim. Most of the time we spent with my dad and Laura, since they were the ones who invited us. I had only met Laura once before, when I was like five, about a year after my parents divorced...I didn't remember her at all. Duh. Apparently they took me to North Park and my mom got ticked that she came along, so that was the end of that. Laura seems to be quite nice. And she's a bit easier to talk to than my dad. They have three youngish cats, and they are totally their "babies". It's kinda funny to see my dad baby those cats. But the cats were all scared of Adam and me until like Saturday night and Sunday morning. Their new house is big for two people; it has four bedrooms, two living room areas, a kitchen, a dining room, 2.5 baths, an office, and a basement. I love their kitchen though. There are two skylights and a lot of the room is white, so it's really bright in there. The weird thing is that it's literally right across the street from where Brady used to live.
So we left Friday afternoon and got there in the evening. We decided that we were all awake enough to go to the St. Alexis festival to watch Rhubarb (a local band) play. While we where standing there it was awkward, so I suggested we walk around, and that helped. The band was pretty good. Then we went back and went to bed. On Saturday we ended up playing frisbee golf, because Adam asked them if they'd ever played before and Laura said that there was a course nearby. That was a confusing and hilly, but fun, course. My dad got a little overly competetive about it, being disappointed when Laura did badly (we only had two discs, so we played on teams). Then we went to the Hot Dog Shoppe, yum! I love their chili. Then we went back and collapsed for a while. Dad insisted on mowing half the grass, so Adam, Laura, and I sat around talking. For dinner we went to this Italian place, which was pretty good. Afterwards we went back to their house and talked and watched the history channel before bed.
In the morning they went to church, but we didn't. Eight a.m. is just too damn early for that. Not for my dad though, who likes to get up at six a.m. every day. They got back around the time we went downstairs, so we had breakfast. More talking, then we played Gin (the card game). We realized it was late, so we went to lunch, then Coldstone, and that was about it. Laura suggested pictures, so we took some outside their house...with the sun right in our eyes.
Adam and I drove over to my aunt and uncle's house, which is at least a half an hour from Wexford, in New Brighton. Their new garage in the backyard is crazy- I hadn't seen that in person yet. We sat and talked with Aunt Donna and Uncle Jim for a while, which is what you do in that house. You sit and talk. Adam was surprised that my uncle wasn't more like my mom, since they were raised together. But siblings can turn out crazy different sometimes. Before we left we went across the street to hang out with Carol and Kenny for a while (they had lived across the street from my grandparents for years, which is the house my uncle and aunt live in now...they're almost like family). I was a bit sad that Jamie, Jimmy, and Rylie couldn't make it, but it happens. Oh, and we found out that Uncle Jim has been battling the lady next door since 2001. She got ticked that he took down these two-foot high shrubs, 'cause he was sick of trimming them. But they're on his property. So now she sends dogs outside to bark at him every time she sees him out.
It was cool to see everyone again. I don't really notice how much I miss people until I finally see them again. It was like that with Mom too when she came up from Florida to get Mike's car. I'm sure I could say more on the visit, but it's high time I get to work on that book for BGeX.
