NPC: Gladis Hathaway [the neighbor]
Location: Outside the Harts' home. Located in an upper middle class neighborhood of Winchester, the house is a three-story Victorian that looks like it could use a little maintenance. Nevertheless, it had a tall wooden fence that cannot be seen over and security system warning stickers on the windows. No one ( Read more... )

X turned his gaze to Gladis when she spoke to him. He took notice of her height at first. If, say Deborah had been stabbed or maybe even shot, the point of impact being at a height similiar to Gladis's could serve as an advantage for his team investigation. Harmless as she seemed, publicity was in the rank of percentages for why criminals committed their deeds.

Nonetheless, X approached her with an innocent smile, allowing himself to appear harmless. "Oh, you could say something like that," he replied. He quickly apologized if his accent threw her off--but it seemed she had her own to work with.

"Actually, I'm here on investigation matters. My name is Xenos, and as I'm sure you know, I'm from Whammy's doing a follow-up on the matter of Miss Hart's tragic death." Hence 'tragic,' use that word and it's like dangling raw meat over a pool of pirhana. X offered her his right hand. "You must be Miss Gladis Hathaway? I was wondering if I could take up just a little bit of your time, if it's not too much trouble..."

Shouldn't be if snooping was a hobby, that is.

"Poor, poor little Debbie!" Gladis sighed, making the sign of the cross, although she didn't look all that sad.

"Oh, what?" She peered at the supposed investigator skeptically. "You're the detective? Well, well..." She shook the boy's hand, her own rather covered in dried mud. "What makes you think this old lady's got something interesting to say, eh?"

X was amused by the double she took, and that was always good in his case. Very easily shows lying or false statements, makes it so much easier to do his job. But old people can either get senile or very, very perceptive, wise and cunning. Nonetheless, X kept smiling, even with the mud on his hand. Couldn't let the suspect think he couldn't be taken seriously due to his age. And not like he had a badge or anything to show that could prove his position.

"Ah, yes, I'm a detective--well, one of a few you may or may not meet. I assure you, though, I take all you have to say into account in a serious and professional manner..." he assured sincerely.

"Well, it seems you might have been close to Miss Hart." Play her on it. "You've been a close neighbor of hers for a long while--I was wondering about your relationship with her, and any sort of new behavior she might have been displaying prior to her death. You know, something like depression, rage, maybe paranoia?"

Gladis put her hands on her hips and tilted her head skyward as she gave this a very good amount of thought. "Well, I used to think she was a bad girl, you see," she replied. "I used to tell her pa, 'Bobby, put a leash on that girl so she stops straying into god knows what!' But lately, ahh... She was cleaning herself up, going to church like a good girl ought. You go to church at all, Zinus?"

X took out his notepad and scribbled this down. At the question, he blinked, a little surprised. "Oh, uh, sometimes, when I get the chance..." he answered. He was in no way religious, but organized religions processions were fun to watch.

"So, you two never really had any trouble with one another? No fights of the sort?" X tapped the pencil on his chin four times total. "Or perhaps you might have seen or recorded any weird activity?" To make her feel like she wasn't alienated or as nosy as she was, he flipped a page in his book and said, "Kind of like I'm doing. I tend to keep notes myself. And it seems the Hart family's got a big security system... I wonder why that is."

"Good boy, good boy," Gladis chuckled, rocking back on her feet.

"Oh I scolded the girl often enough. Can't just let a child misbehave... But not lately. Not in several months, since she started going to church. Her pa though, he'd always fight with her. Could hear 'em screaming from my kitchen. Debbie's ma's a fancy sort of business lady, you know, never home, so Bobby's got to raise the girl on his own. Well, he does a right poor job of it, but what do men know about raising girls, eh? Eh?"

X laughed a little. "Ah, really?" He made sure this matter of constant fighting was noted down. "Nothing too violent, I hope? Has there been any times where, at least within the past few months, Deborah or her parents have called you regarding anything? Say, Deborah needs someone to speak with after fighting with her father, and church currently is out of question..."

If he could get phone records, it might be helpful; anything concrete. Then there was the mother, of course. "How did Deborah get along with her mother? When was the last time Deborah saw her?"

[ooc: Basically after this, X is going to just ask if he can contact her for further questions or help, etc.]

"Oh, no, no!" Gladis cackled. "They know better than to tell me! The whole neighborhood would know about it in a day!"

Then she leaned over and whispered confidentially, "They had a nasty fight last week, a few days before... I heard things being thrown, you know, breaking glass... Debbie was crying an awful lot. Left to go to the church after, like she always does."

She leaned back with a sigh. "As for her ma... Goodness, I don't even remember. Wouldn't know how they got on, as I never see the missus."

((OOC: We can keep tagging if you want after the round ends, as I am sick slowpoke.))

X laughed again. For someone nosy, she was interesting. But he listened to her contentedly when she informed him of the fight, taking action immediately into writing this down.

"It's certainly something to think about," he said. Especially that what behind it. "Do you know what their fights mostly consisted of?"

Gladis nodded over knowingly, folding her arms over her chest. "It's because she's a loose woman, to put that politely. Even though she's been in church, I guess, because that's what they were fighting about last week too."

((OOC: Panaaa...))

How interesting indeed. Well, some habits are hard to break. "She had an ex-boyfriend," X said, "named Jeff Doberman. Had these two been close both prior to the break-up and after, do you know?"

Gladis cackled again, as if she loved this topic. "He left her a month ago," she said, "for that other girl. The cute brunette. She was more proper, like a girlfriend ought to be. A girl like Debbie couldn't compete with someone like that. They fought on the phone about it, I could hear them from the garden."

((OOC: Yes plz...))

"Ah, yes, Miss Moran," X replied, "how did things go between the two of them when Deborah found out they were dating? They were friends beforehand, correct?"

[ooc: lol brb soup]

"Well," she replied, "from what I gathered, they were denying it the whole time, Jeff and the other girl. Said that Debbie was just being paranoid, that Jeff left her because of 'differences' and what have you. I guess she and the other girl eventually patched things up, but if you ask me, it wasn't the same. Debbie went to church a lot more after that."

"That's understandable," X retorted. Only human, too. "Finally, I have one more question to ask: had anyone come over recently before her death, possibly once, twice or more? Anyone from a friend to someone you may not have recognized?"

"Before her death?" Gladis asked, then shrugged. "No, no... No one strange. Even that nice girl came around less."
