Katie Daugherty: If you read this, let your friends at Lawrence know that they shouldn't talk to me about music until they can formulate arguments from facts, not incredibly misguided assumptions. I never once lied about any information I have regarding Mike Pfaff's inability to authentically play Latin music, I experienced it firsthand. Until your friends experience my musical ability and knowledge firsthand, tell them to shut the fuck up. I mean.....wait, he played with Ghanians and Cubans? Oh, that changes the fact that he didn't play the right clave on a tune we played TOGETHER, let alone another couple which I witnessed from other times when I was in the audience! That means he was taking some sort of artistic license doesn't it? It's obviously over my head then isn't it? I wish I actually knew enough about Latin music to know that he didn't actually mean to play incorrenct Latin rhythms, but rather he meant to change the entire tradition of Latin music as we know it! It really takes a firm understanding of Latin music to know enough to act like you're messing it up when in fact you're re-inventing it!!
Maybe what I said in the first entry was a bit self-righteous, however, everything said thereafter by these Lawrence folk was much more so, and incredibly inaccurate to boot.
