Shorthand for Ron still gets no attention at home? Or more of Molly's passive-aggressiveness. Honestly, he hates that color, but his jumpers, dress robes and now his pyjamas are all maroon.
'-demort,' said Harry firmly. 'When are you going to start using his name? Sirius and Lupin do.'
Ooh, one of my pet peeves - Harry is so liek brave for saying Teh Name! (I'll come back to it later, when it annoys me the most) Um, remember what you said in PS, Harry? About it's not that you're super brave for saying the name, it's just that you've not been brought up to avoid it? Yeah. Words to live by. Also, I wanna be just liek Sirius and Lupin, don't you? They're teh kewliest!11 And of course Hermione says it later too, immediately calling Ron pathetic afterward for wincing.
Fully agree on the house elves thing.
Anyway, Sirius is annoying with the bitching. Dude, it's an elf. Have some dignity
( ... )
I love how Hermione and Harry expect everyone to respect and even adopt their cultural attitudes, but it's "pathetic" that people have *gasp* their own.
Poor Sirius. The burden of being the only decent Black must be huge. I'm so glad he doesn't have to deal with that any longer and I don't have to read his whinging any more.
And of course everything they have is evil. Yes, even the pants.
The thought that Dumbledore had been in the house on the eve of his hearing and not asked to see him made him feel, if it were possible, even worse. This is definitely something to notice about this book...it's like...there are so many things that seem a big change from GoF, like Harry's anger, but they're stressed very early because they're going to dominate this book. Like Harry feeling rejected by Dumbledore. Now, considering Dumbledore knows what happened to Harry last year Harry has good reason to expect to hear from him on that score. But instead it's now pushed that Harry has this personal connection to him, so he can feel personally rejected and it sets up Dumbledore's embarassing personal display of affection at the end: Yes, Harry, I ALWAYS loved you! Of course I thought you were best for Prefect blah blah blah
( ... )
Oh definitely - I would expect Harry to want some kind of discussion with his head teacher, since the trial determines his school career, but Dumbledore's later explanation about how Voldie could have suspected that their relationship wasn't the usual one of pupil and teacher? I've no doubt Voldie knows everything Lucius Malfoy knows, and he like his son, describes Harry as 'Dumbledore's favourite

Forgive me for butting in, but I was intrigued by this:
A double line of gold embroidery linked Narcissa Black with Lucius Malfoy and a single vertical gold line from their names led to the name Draco.
By convention among geneticists, very close marriages of two people are denoted by their names being connected by double lines on pedigrees (by very close, I mean first or second cousins). It might hint at more interbreeding within wizarding pureblood society, if JKR was following pedigree convention.
Really? That's a very interesting point, thanks for sharing! (I'm considering reposting these on my personal journal at some point, would you mind if I quoted you on that?)
Kreacher sounds like Brain from Pinky and the Brain. Ahahaha! I never thought about it before, but it's true - they even have the whole defy-the-system, world-domination thing going (though for Kreacher, it's tied to Sirius' mother). Aaaand the sleep deprivation begins to show...
Also, speaking of Molly in this chapter, did you notice this?
Page 100: [Molly's shouting at Mundungus] 'The idiots are letting her get into stride,' said George, shaking his head. 'You've got to head her off early otherwise she builds up a head of steam and goes on for hours... and there goes Sirius' mum again.' Mrs. Weasley's voice was lost amid fresh shrieks and screams from the portraits in the hall.
Talk about contrasts in motherhood: Molly = calm and caring; Mrs. Black = eevil hellion troll princess. NOT.

Totally. In fact, in a later chapter, I think Molly's directly compared to both Mrs. Black and Petunia. Ouch.

Roxanne, how could you ask such a question? It's Mrs. Black, of course! ;)
