Need to stop.
Seriously.
And before I launch into some ridiculous rant about the importance of language and grammar and my love affair with words, I'm going to precursor this by saying that I'm far from the best speller out there.
Far from it.
I rely way too much on spell check and Google, and I'm not even ashamed to admit it. I occasionally use "Lol" and "XDD" and what not. But the point there is that I try. I at least try and make myself legible. If I'm trying to make a serious point, I check my spelling and grammar to make sure I don't sound like an idiot. Personally, I think it's a thousand times easier to understand someone and take them seriously when they use proper grammar than when they don't.
I'm pretty much addicted to the internet, and that being said, I spend a lot of time online on forums and communities and the like, and I just wonder when exactly speaking like an illiterate became 'the cool new thing'? When did spelling boy 'boi' and tYPinG LiKE tHiS become acceptable. I mean, I thought the reason we spent so many years in school learning about our language was so that we could not only learn to use it to communicate effectively, but so that we could avoid crap like this. What's the point in bastardizing a word and risking a total lack of communication when it's so much simpler to type it out correctly and actually be understood?
And moving on from grammar. Passive aggressive statuses, notes, journals, what have you should just stop. It's one thing to express your feelings in a status, it's another to launch an underhanded attack on someone because you won't say things to their faces. I guess it's because I've always been the type to just blurt something out I don't get it (that, and I'm kind of a bitch), but I just find them silly. If you have something to say, just say it... maybe run it through Spellcheck first, but say it nonetheless.
[/rant]
P.S. This isn't really directed at anyone in particular, so don't feel offended. It's just a general statement of things.
