Movie, car key, will

Went to see The Spiderwick Chronicles yesterday. And it was all right, I guess. Unfortunately, it really did hint at a larger literary volume of events that had been completely dropped to shoehorn it into a movie timeslot. It pretty much failed to develop any of the depth promised by its premise.

Additionally, there wasn't anything in the production that stood out as terribly interesting or new. The CGI was OK, the fantasy themes were OK, but nothing groundbreaking. I can't help but feel that it would have worked better as a kids' afterschool TV series.

I got the car key looked at, too. The little button on it to unlock the engine security cutout thingie has been playing up, so I took it in to have the batteries changed. As it turns out, the batteries are fine, but the battery contacts had bent very slightly away from the surface of the battery proper. Essentially, the effectiveness of the button depended on how hard the plastic case over the batteries was being squeezed. It works a little better after it was tinkered with - and I didn't even get, ahem, charged. If you'll forgive the pun.

And finally, after months of procrastination, I've booked a time to have a basic will put together. It was mentioned by my parents a while back as something we might want to look into now that we have a house, because presumably at some point the value of the place will exceed what we owe on it and it would be nice to allocate that amount to family instead of the government, should we both be hit by a bus.
