It seems that in the desperate rush to find an excuse for grubbing around in the wallets of the general public before Christmas (although a lot of shops are already stocking that stuff too), retailers are attempting to import the idea of Halloween from America, only without actually admitting that they're doing so.
This leads to things like totally coincidental displays of pumpkins, cobwebs, and Dracula masks all over supermarkets, but without any mention of the word 'Halloween' or any acknowledgement that there are now fake blood packets next to the Spiderman costumes. Because it's totally coincidental, you see. Nothing whatsoever to do with the references that come over with imported TV programs.
