The Cinderella breakpoint

Now that there's technology to scan people's dimensions automatically, and computer effects can project simulations of what a given item of clothing would look like on someone, wouldn't it be fascinating to throw an autotailor into the mix - a machine which could, at the very least, make a variety of minor adjustments to a standard clothing item in order to make it fit better?

Install them at large department stores, have people choose their outfit and pay for it, and they can walk away with a custom-fitted wardrobe.

Install them at boutiques, where people are more willing to pay a little extra for something that fits very well indeed.

They won't be able to replace human tailors, of course, but they might be able to take up some of the grunt work and minor modifications, and allow people access to cheap, ubiquitous clothing adjustments.

So, good idea? Bad idea? Would it be nice to have all your clothing autotailored to actually fit you?
