Elena knew the talk had been coming eventually. For seven months they had avoided really talking about the future and what it meant when his brother found out about the two of them. For seven months they had blocked out the real world but it was something they couldn't do forever. Even now it was looming ahead of them with the holidays approaching and that meant the little bubble of Heaven they had created would be broken. Soon they would have to face everyone else and deal with the fall out.
She just hadn't planned on it happening already in the form of an actual fight between them.
He had warned her before that he would try to reach a compromise with his brother when it came to their relationship but she hadn't imagined that a compromise would be basically giving Klaus what he wanted. It still didn't sit well with her but she knew Elijah was right in thinking that Klaus would keep them apart if he thought it would give him what he wanted and that was something that Elena couldn't deal with. She had lost so much already and she couldn't bear the idea of losing him too.
So she finally swallowed her pride and went in search of him. it didn't feel right not to talk to him just like the idea of tension existing between them felt wrong too. It made her feel vaguely sick as she descended the stairs from their bedroom while wondering what room she would find him in. Eventually she tracked him to his library and she was immediately aware of the tension in his shoulders, in the stiff way he held himself as soon as he heard the door open, and she sighed a bit at the idea that maybe he was still angry with her for not agreeing right away to his plans.
She still wasn't sure that she did agree but she was going to be a big girl and talk to him instead of trying to just...ignore it. So she made her way to where he was sitting, leaning in behind him so she could wrap her arms around his shoulders and hug him from behind. Turning her head, she pressed her forehead to his cheek before sighing.
"I'm sorry."
