So clinicals have been pretty fun! The way we have it set up is the first two weeks a partnet and I take care of one patient, but we can go around and help out any patient that needs help. But we only need to chart for one patient right now, which is pretty cool but the care plans are what kills us. Each care plan you write is about 15 pages long, and they take like 3 to 4 hours to write which sucks ass cause i could be doing something else. But whatever, i have to get used to doing these charts anyway cause ill be doing them for the rest of my life.lol
Its such a long day at the care facility (apparently they arent called old folks homes), and some of these ppeople are just difficult to take care of.Not because they are annoying but because they might have a contracture, weakness on one side of their body, its difficult to understand them or something weird like that. But even though they are hard to take care of and its an exhausting day its a good feeling to know that you probably gave them more care and better care than what they normally receive on a day to day basis. Seriously, i am amazed at times by the neglect some of these nurses show these people. In some units they have the patients sitting out in the middle of the hall so they can keep an eye on them to make sure they dont fall but they never talk to these patients! when you say hello to them they looked stunned that somebody actually noticed them...its sad somtimes...the way the aids talk to some of the patients is just terrible...i dunno..they seem so grateful when I talk to them. I was talking to this one lady this past friday for about 20 minutes...after we were done talking she told me how happy she was that i talked to her because nobody else will talk to her cause "the aids get bothered when you aske them anything" and then she went on to tell us how lonely she was and i dunno..i felt bad for the way they treated her...people shouldnt be treated that way
