So I have never really been interested in tennis until I watched the Federer vs Tipsarevic match about a week ago. That was amazing from what I saw of it (it was on at work). I was so sure Federer was going to murder Tip, but obviously not! Five sets, man. I also thought Tip was going to injure himself with how much he seemed to be slipping and sliding and nearly falling over...I was also surprised that he wore glasses to play. I would have thought contacts would have been more appropriate. Anyway now I am hooked...but only on men's tennis. Women's tennis feels so slow and like they take forever, even though they only need to play two sets to win.
Anyway, the matches I saw today:
Ivanovic vs Hantuchova
Ivanovic won, but imo there was no way that she was better than Hantuchova. Nearly every point Invanovic won was because Hantuchova made a mistake, which I suppose would say that Invanovic was better than Hantuchova but I feel like Ivanovic never really worked for her points. It felt very much like Hantuchova was the aggressor and really driving the match, while Ivanovic was quite passive and got very lucky. It doesn't really matter who won this though, since they're most likely going to be completely slaughtered by Sharapova in the finals. I haven't seen Sharapova play, but from the clips I've seen she seems very aggressive...maybe the finals won't feel slow and lazy? ;)
Tsonga vs Nadal
OMG Tsonga beat Nadal! I was completely and utterly rooting for Nadal. I have no idea why I have latched onto Federer and Nadal (and Tip) but I really wanted to see them play against each other in the final. I know they've played against each other numerous times, but I didn't care about tennis then! Now I can't see it because Tsonga beat Nadal! I cannot believe this. Tsonga, UNSEEDED, beat the number two player! My mind, it is reeling.
Nadal barely made it onto the score board too with 6-2 6-3 6-2. He tried EVERYTHING and just...nothing. Tsonga was just too good. He moved really well and made everything just seem so easy, while Nadal was running and squeaking all over the place. I was really, really hoping that Nadal would pull something amazing out of the air and just destroy Tsonga (possible five sets?), but that didn't happen. :(
Federer better beat Djokovic tomorrow night so he can verse Tsonga. That will be an amazing match if Tsonga plays like he did today. Obviously I will be hoping for a Federer win though. :p It'll be just my luck that now that I'm somewhat invested in these players that things will just not go how I want them to. Urgh, I really wish I wasn't working this weekend! I'll only be able to see bits and pieces of the matches. :(
In other news, my internet has been speed limited. D: It is so bad. I've had to turn off auto-load pictures, which for some strange reason has completely stuffed up the threading of LJ comments. :| I now cannot tell when a conversation ends.
