Yarn, hats, and life in general...

Mar 11, 2016 00:17

So, it's been awhile since I last posted. Last year in fact.

Let's update, shall we?

After the New Year I dog sat for Yuba's Humans. Had a good time, Yuba and I chillaxed, mostly inside since it rained a *lot* the week I was there. Got some knitting time in, and completed one charity hat, a hat for myself (okay, an earwarmer), and started another hat.

I continued that trend of completing a hat every few days until now... and finished 7 hats for charity (only one less than I made all last year), 2 earwarmers (one for me, one for my SIL), 1 scarf (that I actually just finished from before NSWH), a Zombie Pirate stuffed toy (for my brother's b-day), and 3 baby hats (one way more involved than the others.) All since the start of the year. I currently have another hat on the needles.

I did get myself yarn in the Knit Picks Big Sale in November 2015. And I also bought myself some more superwash wool, the stuff a lot of the charities I yarn craft for require for gifting, at Smileys Yarns a few weeks ago. Plus, they had Boa available for like 60 percent off retail and I can't even find it locally anymore (and we have three different craft chains that are in my local area all with at least two locations.)

I've barely done laundry since the New Year. I did a clean out of everything since before Non-Specific Winter Holiday (including all the fancy socks) after dog-sitting Yuba, since Mom's slightly allergic to dogs. Yes, I have washed loads of laundry since then, but mostly small loads containing bras/underwear and my favorite shirts (plus pants!) So there's a mountain I need to sort and deal with soon. And it's been cold and rainy right alongside weeks of record breaking heat, so the variety is everything from my fluffiest, warmest sweaters/sweatshirts, to my barely noticeable Summer shirts.

I got the sweetest bag for NSWH from my brother and sister-in-law. It's perfect for when I travel, and I actually brought it with me when I went to dog-sit Yuba in January. It's got separate pockets for everything, including individual zippered areas with see-through plastic for different yarns/projects.

Hmmm... didn't get my A1C done until Tuesday, March 8, for reasons, but it's up a little since my numbers at the end of September... when it was 5.9, it's up to 6.0. So, not horribly bad, but not super-terrific.

But I'm blaming my other medical problems for the change. Remember I mentioned I was seeing the podiatrist last fall?

GORY DETAILS ARE HERE

Well, the ulcer on the bottom of my big toe was almost healed... and right before Thanksgiving I had just changed my dressing and was cleaning dried blood off my skin (with a Q-tip and water, nothing more serious), when the skin on the side of my toe split, and I was oozing blood.

Ick!

So, I didn't freak out, but added a bit more of the silver nitrate to that area, and a bit more gauze to the side of my toe for good measure.

So, Dr. D has been treating that wound since December. We thought we almost got it closed about a month ago, then a very slight probing of the wound revealed it was still deeper than he'd like. So, more aggressive antibiotics (and me on probiotics to combat the changes that makes to a girls' body, and I can safely claim that even after about three months of off and on again antibiotic regimes I'm still Yeast infection clean!) and decisions about doing a biopsy.

There were Blood tests to be done, and I did do them on Tuesday, March 1, and man the wait at the lab was over an hour. Yes, I totally brought along knitting, and only asked an older gentleman to please stop talking about the details of the wounds he got as a child from getting shot in the gut by a .38 bullet. I have a vivid imagination, and did not need the details (hearing the terms "perforated bowels" really made that idea hit home)... that have led to the problems he's having now.

The biopsy happened last Wednesday, March 3, and I was to change the dressings myself every day over the weekend. It was a bit painful, since he, and I quote, "scrapped out mushy bone" and sent that biopsy sample in. I saw him on Monday, and those results weren't back yet, but he finally had my lab results, and one of them was a little troubling, so he had me get more tests, Tuesday, March 8, and that's when I got my A1C done as well.

Dudes! The lab on Tuesday was insanely *not* busy! We're talking it took them longer to process me than anything else. They basically treated me like two separate patients (for the A1C for my GP and the panel for my Podiatrist) whom happened to have the same name, birthdate, and medical coverage.

I saw Dr. D again today, Thursday, March 10, and I basically refused to be admitted to the hospital, unless he said it was necessary. I was in the hospital last year in March... also on my period. It was miserable and I hated it... and I had loads of laundry to do then as well.

Dr. D decided to do another biopsy, since my one from last week said the bone was necrotic (oh, yeah hearing my toe bone was dying while inside my body was THRILLING today.) And so my appointment went from the usual half hour to over two hours. And I was the very last patient in there.

You know it's serious when you hear the terms "bone cutters" applied to what's happening with your body. But I centered myself, ignored looking down (mostly by closing my eyes), and kept breathing. I complained only when my ankle was tugged, since I was numbed in the toe region. And I was not thrilled when it basically took the entire staff to help Dr. D do this. But again, I do not want to go back to the hospital for the second time in a year.

I go in a few hours to get another set of blood tests, and I see Dr. D tomorrow evening so he can change my dressing and check on me. I might be pretty much forced to be hospitalized then, but one can live in hope that doesn't happen.

Right now the right foot is not really causing me any pain, but MAN is my ankle bothering me. Complete with shooting pains and muscle aches. I'm also nauseated, and that could just as likely be this, or my other meds.

Yes, I've been delaying seeing my GP to have this corrected, since while I don't have a phobia of doctors, I have a reluctance of going because of my childhood (a calendar year nearly as crappy as this one has been for me, medically speaking.) And I do my best not to need to go, except the dentist because my dentist rocks, and I grew up with his kids.

GORY DETAILS ARE OVER NOW.

At my last appointment, back in February, we were sharing stories about HIS Dad, since it would've been his Dad's 91st birthday were he still alive. Apparently Phil hadn't heard the one about Chuck E. Cheese, the ball pit, and a boys versus girls fight. Which the boys completely lost, and HIS Dad told the boys, "Accept it (the loss) with grace, Gentlemen. Women let US think they're the weaker sex, but they're more likely to win the war, rather than the battle like us."

Okay, gory stuff done. But, now I need sleep since tomorrow is a long day for me.
