SPN Ep: The Devil You Know

Boys? We need to talk. That means you too, Bobby.

Sam, letting yourself be possessed and then grabbing control back from Lucifer long enough to force him into a trap is an interesting idea on paper. Unfortunately, the reality is that you couldn't wrest control back from the demon that used to possess Meg Masters and it was way lower on the totem pole than Lucifer. So this wresting back control you have planned? Is not something I foresee being a happening thing. I'm just sayin'.

Dean, you know how you've spent 3 seasons telling Sam that he shouldn't choose a demon over you? And you remember how things worked out when he did it anyway? Yeah. Did you really think things were going to work out any differently for you? But I guess now you truly understand that things rarely go the way you planned when you choose to work with a demon.

Bobby, Crowley is only interested in Crowley. Whatever deal he offers will be good for him and he couldn't care less about you. I know you're in kind of a bad place right now and making a noble, heroic gesture to save humanity might sound appealing, but do not trust Crowley to give your soul back if you make this deal. Eternal damnation is a really long time, so if you think you're miserable now... Do yourself a favor and just say no.

Jared, why were you using your growly David Caruso voice from "Changing Channels?" I kept waiting for you to whip out your sunglasses at night.

Meanwhile, back at the meta:

We knew from the YED that Jess was killed because Sam was in danger of becoming a corporate desk jockey instead of the leader of the demon army, but wow. If he really sent his minion to possess Sam's best friend and introduce Sam and Jessica so they could then get Sam back on target by killing her, that means there's been way more demon meddling going on in Sam's life than we previously suspected. I wonder how Demon!Brady knew Sam and Jess would hit it off? Did he trick a Cupid into moving things along (the angels did it with John and Mary), or would he have just kept introducing Sam to the "right" kind of girl until Sam finally fell for one?

I was actually kind of proud of Sam tonight. Crowley and Demon!Brady were really pushing his buttons, but even though Sam got right up to the very, very edge a couple of times, he never completely lost control. He always pulled himself back at the last minute. And the way things have been going, keeping a rein on his temper must be like trying to control a hurricane with a lasso right about now. I just don't know how long he can keep it up. Hopefully long enough to put a lid on the apocalypse.
