As I sit here eating Belgian mini-eclairs and listening to Claude Debussy, "Clair de Lune" (which I just imagine that the ghostly apparition of Debussy, upon learning his beloved piano music was used for.. ugh.. Twilight.. had to say "Mon Dieu! Qu'est-ce que c'est avec les idiotes qui malmennent ma musique?")
*ahem*
Anyway, what a wonderful, wonderful weekend, the first full weekend of Advent. The holidays are coming upon us and, for the first time since childhood, I'm very excited about it! That is, when you have to realize that holiday cheer can come in any way we of the Dark Side understand what cheer can be, and own cameras..
Be afraid.
FRIDAY:
No amount of wardrobe drama was going to stop me from going to Dunkelheit's Semi-Formal Holiday party (thank you
phoebe4real!!).. in spite of the tuxedo shirt ripping, going to Macy's to get the bowtie, going to Goodwill to get (replaced at last) a new tuxedo jacket, and the tie not wanting to tie, and no responses back on my request for help getting dressed (except for Dave who was unable to show up, and Will who was equally unable), leaving late and feeling as if I did a half-arsed job getting ready and dishonoring everyone who put Dunkelheit together by not giving it my best for their benefit..
..surprised beyond comprehension at the myriad of compliments!! Though, of course getting to hang with Shasta and Robert, Laura, Marti, Noc, DJ Hardware,
djpanic, Rick,
stillitwatches, and that new couple whose names I can't remember, I think Tony and.. ??
People dressed very well, the music was quite interesting and of course, heady conversations were to be had..
SATURDAY:
I was about to go to Ted's infamous holiday party in Arlington when Naomi texted me to invite me to join Natalie and her for dinner for a very nice surprise discussion.. so of course I chose the latter and got a big surprise on an event that hopefully will take place next year (something that
exquisitetrash,
cerberus777,
prosector and
stillitwatches should keep in the back of their heads when more info surfaces..).. dinner was not bad though I now realize why no one from
spellbound_dc ever goes next door to the pub: The eww! The food is not bad but the clientele are entirely consisting of drunken normies.. though they did give us our favorite memory:
DRUNKEN NORMIE: (yells) NO!!!
Naomi: (yells) YES!!!
the_nordic_one: (yells) MAYBE!!!
So after that wonderful dialogue we had that very long walk.. next door.. to
spellbound_dc. Oh yes, the long walk through the blistering Arctic blizzard.. (oh please.. we were dusted and they closed SCHOOLS FOR THIS???)
I had a fantastic time hanging with Naomi and Natalie there and our talking to Kirk for a bit.. then my getting to hang with the very beautiful people: Arwen, Alex,
in_remission,
sameoldtune, and Alex's BF Tim.. we spent the evening talking about
dancesofvicenyc and just being fabulous.. :)
I stayed later than I wanted to because of the Metro (yes, folks, Metro Drama ensues.. you miss the 16 buses in Arlington you're waiting in the cold for an hour for a bus) and had to take a cab back from Pentagon City Metro..
SUNDAY:
I did something out of character for me: I stayed home the entire day. I went.. nowhere. Was tempted to visit another church but changed my mind and felt nesty and wanted to not go out in the near-freezing cold. I stayed in, played with my FB, admired this awesome chain mail vest that I want, talked to Jamie for a while which was exceedingly cool, made Christmas Eve service plans with Ken (which I hope involves candles and High Church!) and, yes, put the infamous Dunkelheit tux back on to take pics so people could see it for themselves..
And that, oh folk, was my weekend.. so how was yours?
