And to indulge in my fun/spastic mood of the moment, and my desire to avoid work through fic writing, if someone wants to take a guess at what my preference is and they get it right, I'll write said person a little

I personally prefer it when Dean tops even though I can't say why, it's just what I feel is more natural I suppose. However, there's have been top!Cas fic that I have enjoyed in the past if only very few.

I'm going to take a shot and guess that 'the switch' is your preference?
(if I get a ficlect you wont have to worry about porn, I always choose schmoopy fic without sex over fic with sex, it makes me such a bad slash fan I know! xD)

Yeah, I guess it would be more natural. I feel like when they finally got together Dean would totally top the first time or for a while... without a doubt :P And it's tough with Cas topping fics... sometimes the dynamic can be thrown off.

And close! I prefer them switching but Cas mostly topping :P I'll read either though, as long as it's done right. (lol! That does not make a bad slash fan :P Fluff and schmoop make the world go round! And not a lot of people guessed, so if you want a ficlet/have a prompt anyway, I'm in a procrastinating mood :P)

I think that's what puts me off of most top!Cas fic is that I feel that the equality of their dynamic is lost in the ones that I have read. Although you get that in bottom!Cas fic too if you pick the wrong ones. Maybe I should clarify that my preference is Cas topping from the bottom. xD Idk, I think Dean n' Cas as both tops and bottoms all at once despite what position they're in, but I've only found that equality theme as consistently in fics that have Dean as the top and Cas as the bottom because it's only as their sexual positions and not as their emotional ones.

I wish I could read them as more of a switch considering that's technically how see them anyways. I have no idea why I have to be so picky, it's annoying really. :[

I've actually never considered it in those words, but yeah, Dean and Cas being top and bottom at once is kind of how they play off of each other, emotionally etc. That makes a ton of sense. I think that's why I'm sometimes "ehhh" about Cas bottoming: he's an angel of the lord, and sometimes people make him this really submissive, weak bottom and I'm like :/ Because he's a warrior, etc. But I think fics that are successful really do have that equality between them regardless of who's topping or bottoming, and topping from the bottom is kind of the physical expression of that. Huh... that is interesting! Thanks for pointing it out like that! lol

That's exactly it! lol, I always have to complicate things for myself I have no idea why. That's funny because that's what makes me weary of a lot of fics with Dean bottoming. I've noticed that whichever your preference there's going to be a good amount of fic that has Dean or Cas as a submissive and I simply can't see it that way of either of them. Woobie!Dean is just as much of a turn off for me as woobie!Cas, and maybe it's because I can usually tell if it's going to be one of those fics with bottom!Cas just by a glance (I must have radar or something)that I don't find it as often while that's almost all I fall into in bottom!Dean fics. Having either of them a submissive thing that needs taking care of and the other who's completely in control just feels very out-of-character for me. They both have that strong undercurrent of vulnerability when it comes to each other and having one more dominant than the other simply doesn't feel like an accurate portrayal of their relationship

Lol, woobie!Dean... Yeah, Dean being all submissive is something I don't like to see, and it's definitely easy to fall into writing woobie!Dean when writing bottom!Dean because if you write it with Cas being the dominant top, then obviously the warrior/"I raised you from Hell, I can throw you back in"!Cas is so easy to fall into if you're not careful. That's probably why bottom!Cas is a little safer than bottom!Dean (because Dean doesn't have that super strength/otherworldly power behind him). And you're completely right... they do have that vulnerability with each other, but based on who they are and how they are with each other, I don't see one taking advantage of the other's vulnerabilities. It's totally about give and take, equality, than making one of the pair submissive.
