Quiet Evening [For Ray]

The night was beautiful.

The day's heat and humidity had cooled down somewhat, and Fraser had built a small fire on the beach, not far from the absurd looking spaceship. If only the spaceship was the most absurd feature of the island, he thought idly.

He sat by the fire, his hands carving something out of wood. He wasn't sure what it was yet. A gift for Christopher Robin, perhaps. Or Scout. A welcoming present. He'd been more than a little surprised to see Scout Finch on the island, but he was pleased that Ray had adopted her. Perhaps Huckleberry Finn would be next.

It wasn't that he was avoiding his family, but he had been a solitary creature for so long that sometimes he needed to remind himself of how lucky he was to have in his life the people that he loved. Solitude was good for that, and when Fraser returned he would be refreshed.
