Since I posted this on tumblr, I might as well post it here, although I've given up on it for this round of seasonal_spuffy because I realise it's much too short notice for that amount of art. But if anyone's interested for the next round, I have been dying to do this for OVER A YEAR now :)Any of my Buffy/Spuffy fen read the WicDiv comics? I’m ( Read more... )

I've read a couple of volumes of Wic/Div, though it was a while back. I like your idea, though I do find the way the Pantheons work in Wic/Div very cruel, bordering on upsetting. I can see how the two worlds could merge.

One possibility I'm thinking about is that the slayer is a "hidden" god, not involved in the inspirational role of the other gods in the Pantheon, but designated to protect instead. More recent issues have touched on a fight against the "darkness", so Buffy could be involved in that, and then her story could potentially run parallel to the comics. The gods being chosen regardless of their will fits nicely with the slayer mythology though... Hmm...

It does. I agree. Their brief lifespans are a bit problematic, though.

Also pondering a way around that, like maybe if Buffy defeats the darkness, the need for the Recurrence won't be there and the gods get released from their two year contract... as it were. If I'm going into true mashup territory I could make the darkness into the First.

You should definitely check it out :) I've never read comics before so this is my first foray, but I freaking love it, and the art is beautiful. The creators have said that they love Buffy, and imo you can see the Whedonverse influence in the snappy dialogue and some of the themes, but they get a lot right that Whedon continues to get wrong, like the diversity of the characters, and its core feminism (intersectional too, ye gads). So yeah, very interesting series.

I'd been thinking it's something that could cross over, but I'm pretty sure that the Slayer line spell shouldn't be part of whatever magic generates a Recurrence. Not can't be, but we're getting pieces of the spell structure of a Recurrence and what everyone knows is either not complete or is flat out wrong. Probably both. I'm eagerly awaiting some more monkey wrenches, and kind of hoping they've got a nice little avalanche of messy puzzle bits planned.

Ugh, LJ just ate my comment. But the main thing was YA FELLOW READER! And, did you know there's also been a special issue published set during the 1831 recurrence? I just got it and it's awesome.

Oh, that's why it's being stupid... I guess it works better if I stuff a cbz in Dropbox instead of an epub if I want it in a comic reader. Or yeah I have it but I hadn't read it due to derp.
