2012 In Review

Jan 03, 2013 21:05

Last year I was too late, so I was determined to make sure I did it this year... then promptly forgot. Luckily, dvswraatins has just done hers, which both reminded me to get my ass in gear, and provided a neat little frame to steal :D Thanks, hon!

Fannish Year In Review 2012

1. Your main fandom of the year: A Song of Ice and Fire, or at least the little Sansa/Sandor corner of it.

2. Your favorite film this year: Uh... this is the point where I run to IMDB to remind myself what I've watched (although I haven't been overwhelmed by this year's cinema efforts). I think I'll go with The Hunger Games, which was pretty damn awesome.

3. Your favorite book this year: I've read a few really good ones, actually, and have been meaning to write reviews of them since the summer. OH WELL. The Hunger Games trilogy was excellent, though the first book was definitely the strongest imo and has suffered a little in my memory because I didn't enjoy the later ones as much. I also read the second book by Rosamund Lupton, Afterwards, who is probably my favourite author now. Beautiful writing style, and had me in tears several times (though, again, I didn't like it quite as much as her first book).

4. Your favorite album or song this year: Tough one. Probably Our Version of Events, by Emeli Sande.

5. Your favorite TV show this year: It's not been a big TV year for me this year, but the hubby and I have both been enjoying Elementary. Also, I don't know if this qualifies, but I saw an excellent two part drama on the beeb over xmas called Restless. Highly recommended, though I'm still a bit non-plussed about the ending!

6. Your favorite LJ community this year: sansa_sandor is the only one I hang out at anymore.

7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year: Nope. I'm a one-fandom pony.

8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year: Game of Thrones season 2. The SanSan was a complete disaster, but even beyond that, the utter decimation of the female characters and their plot lines was completely sickening.

9. Your TV boyfriend of the year: Michael C. Hall. So fucking hot.

10. Your TV girlfriend of the year: Lucy Liu. See above.

11. Your biggest squee moment of the year: I've been very lucky this year to get a lot of wonderful, long comments on my fanfic, many of which have made me squee :)

12. Your most missed old fandom: Oh, Merlin fandom, you were so fun and friendly. I just wish the show hadn't started sucking so much.

13. Your fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? Nope, and not looking :)

14. Your biggest anticipation of the New Year: The new Star Trek, of course!

The Writing

This is probably my most productive fannish year ever - I guess when you find something that works for you, it just works. Everything below can be found on my AO3 page here.

Feb - Endgame, Cold Winds Blow
Mar - Bliss, The Lady of the Gift (actually completed the previous December, but not posted until March)
Apr - My Graceless Heart
May - One Sentence Meme
Jun - Raven, Lemoncakes, Avalanche
Jul - Blow Your Mind
Sep - Heart's Desire, Tumblr Ficlets
Oct - Window in Your Heart (WIP)

Total words: 162,685 (holy crap!)

I've also started an original novel. I might have mentioned it here or there :)

My best story(ies) of this year: I find that quite hard to judge tbh, but now I've got some distance from it I actually think I'm going to go with Avalanche. (See below for my tone of surprise!)

My favourite story of this year: The Lady of the Gift. It was just such a good experience.

Most fun story to write: Heh heh. Endgame.

Sexiest story: Also probably Endgame. Although writing Lemoncakes left me pretty much useless for an entire day...

Story with the single sexiest moment: Personally? Lemoncakes.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I don't think there was one story that did it, but my ideas about the characters have certainly shifted gradually over time. The difference between The Lady of the Gift and Window in Your Heart is quite visible, I think. To me at least.

Hardest story to write: Avalanche, hands down. That fucker took everything I had to finish, but I'm so glad I got through it.

Biggest Disappointment: Nothing writerly. I'm quite pleased with my efforts this year. I guess I would have liked more time for writing, but that's nothing new.

Biggest Surprise: Lemoncakes. I don't know where the fuck that one came from. Well, no, I do, but I don't. If you get what I'm saying ;)

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? Finish my novel! Get it published! Quit my fucking job and become a pro writer! Mostly finish my novel, though.

I'd like to thank the academy...(Thanks to your betas, frequent commenters/supporters, the people who stayed up with you late on IM...)

So many thank yous to give, but the biggest as always has to go to ownsariver, my infallible, incredible beta. As I've said before, she owns me. Huge thanks must also go to megs0226 for all of her patience and help with The Novel, and shadow_belle1 for the same. There are a number of other wonderful women who've read all of my stories faithfully and left the most amazing feedback. I don't want to name names in case I forget anyone, but I just want you all to know that I appreciate it a massive amount, and what a privilege it is to be writing in a fandom that gives such quality feedback :)

Happy 2013 to you all ♥
