One of the things I loved about the Wabano Centre was their amazing art.
One of the artists whose work I found most appealing was Christi Belcourt. Her style was reminiscent of tole painting, wince it used a lot of dots. Apparently this stems from her beadwork. The colours were amazingly rich, and the detail was exquisite. I mean, just look at this damn butterfly! Just looking at her work made me want to paint again, even tough I'm not very good.
Her website is here:
http://www.christibelcourt.com, and having looked at it, I'm shocked at how relatively inexpensive her art work is. I'm kind of tempted to commission a painting of fish.
Also really impressive was a painting called "The Conflict Between Good and Evil,
" by Les Mamakeesick (or possibly Mawakeesick). It's a red bird attacking what looks like a yellow lizard. Then the sun came out and the yellow lizard lit up and I realized it was a brilliant gold. Just stunning.
