Last night I was awoken at 1 a.m. by a tamil protest outside my home. No little sheets warning me in advance that such an event would occur - like we had to distribute for Pride. No, just a bunch of loud people shutting down traffic and screaming and scaring my cats. It went on for half an hour. I called in a noise complaint, but the police didn't care. I called their public liaison office, but there was no answer and no machine. I spoke to them this morning, but they're defensive and annoyed (perhaps they were woken up in the middle of the night). I can understand that genocide might make you forget the etiquette of protests (like have them during the day) but why have them in our poor-ass neighbourhood? Why not traipse through Rosedale or wherever the rich people live these days? Would the police have cared about my sleep if I made over a million a year? This made me less sympathetic to their plight. It also gave me another reason to dislike the Take Back the Night marches. I never have cared for chanting, and they're always at night, without any consideration for the neighbours, and now that I think of it, they're usually in scary" poor neighbourhoods, as if that's where all the misogyny is.
Now I'm grouchy and will be less pleasant to my customers. See how awful this cycle of violence is?
angry,
sleep,
police
