Yesterday, I had to go over and pick up my cooler at my friends' in Newtown. I had forgotten it on Thanksgiving Day and left it at her sister's in Perkasie. The guys were in NYC at the Giants' game, so I took Mrs. O a piece of the apple pie I made Friday. She was headed out to the Lenox outlet store near Oxford Valley and asked if I wanted to go along. I thought maybe I could pick up a small casserole; after making the full-recipe of the tuna-noodle casserole last week, I decided I needed to make smaller amounts so I don't have so much that I'm eating the leftovers for 10 days.
When we got there, I looked at what they had in the way of baking dishes; the smallest plain one seemed too large, and I didn't really want one with a Christmas theme (a drawing of sprigs of holly in the bottom), so we left with just a few ornaments that Mrs. O bought as gifts. Then we stopped at BB&B (Bed, Bath and Beyond) in Newtown, and the only baking dish that I liked (fairly deep, square and just under six inches square at the bottom, about seven inches square, not counting the small handles, at the top) in terms of size and weight was an oven-to-table chafing dish ... made in China. It had the metal stand with the little candle-holders at the bottom, but as I'm not allowed to have open flames in the apartment, that went into my storage room. It is really hard to stick to my self-imposed rule about not buying stuff made in China in all cases. I'm even more uneasy with electronic items than I am with a dish, and I absolutely won't knowingly buy any food item that comes from China.
I'm just hoping that this small casserole doesn't explode in the oven.
