The results of all those failures

The failures that have plagued this country for at least 65 years now continue to build catastrophe onto catastrophe. What are some of those failures? The failure of U.S. education to prepare our citizens to think analytically, logically, and unemotionally and to evaluate political candidates in an intelligent and reasonable way. The failure of the government to (a) behave in ways that protect the entire population, (b) to act in accordance with the U.S. Constitution and the aims and underpinnings of the founders (who were, admittedly, not a lot of do-gooders free from self-interest but who did have a pretty good concept of what a government should be and do). The failure of the business community to behave in anything resembling ethical and responsible ways. The failure of the vast community of federal and state bureaucrats to protect the U.S. citizenry from irresponsible legislation, and corrupt officials, judges, and law enforcement personnel. The failure of the media to hold the feet of all of the above to the fire; to be objective, skeptical, and responsible; and to demand intelligence and skill in their reporters and other staff.

The results of all those failures include the terrifying economic mess this country is in; the ability of "the military-industrial complex" (thanks, Ike) to control every aspect and every level of my life and yours; relatedly, the aggressive behavior of the U.S. in the world, making it the most despised nation on the planet; and the half of our population who actually think the U.S. is the richest, greatest, and best-educated country on Earth and who admire the likes of Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, John Boehner, and George W. Bush, among the many ignoramuses in American politics. They're also the global-warming deniers, the supporters of the actions in Iraq and Afghanistan, the adamant don't-raise-my-taxes crowd, and those whose hearts are completely closed to the poor, the old, and the disadvantaged.

I personally do not believe that things are going to improve anytime soon, if ever. I do believe we have moved past the point of no return and that the U.S. and its economy are gathering momentum on a very steep slope, at the bottom of which is political and social chaos.
