Ava wrinkled her nose as fat droplets of rain started spattering against the windshield of Rori's truck, falling faster and heavier by the minute. She didn't mind the rain especially, and they still needed it, but her current shoes were wrong for it and the sky looked dark enough that a storm was probably coming. She'd had all these elaborate ideas for their evening since they were trying to spend less time holed up at her place and more time out amongst people, but the weather wasn't cooperating. Ava was entertaining thoughts of being snuggled up under a blanket with Rori and TV instead of being out on the town, and not even because she was scared, or not totally. Maybe she was getting old, or maybe she was just that worried about her shoes, and her bare legs. Maybe it had just been a really long week. That part she was sure of, at least.
But she could only be so cranky about rain considering she'd been looking forward to seeing Rori all week, and she had ice cream. She licked the side of her cone and caught Rori's eye. "Thanks, by the way. I had the weirdest craving," she said. "Even if we couldn't eat it outside after all. I had plans for this ice cream outing, it was going to be totally romantic and a lot drier." She smiled slightly. She liked just walking with Rori sometimes, out in the park with Wilbur or on the street, even if they weren't holding hands.
