There wasn't much Thad could really add to the whole cooking process since pancakes and mac and cheese weren't required--also because everything seemed to be mostly done. He'd spent a little time with Wednesday and his sister, which was always good. He missed being around here more. Work with Tyler kept him too busy to really hang around--Harley was probably glad for that.

When it was almost time to eat, Thad dug into the bag he'd brought and made his way over to Ariel. Christmas gifts were more of a first-thing-in-the-morning thing, at least it seemed like they should be, so maybe he could get this part out of the way without making her wait even longer.

"Everything smells great," he said when he reached her.

"Thanks. Harley did most of the work, though," Ariel admitted, looking up at Thad with a grin. She was undeniably fond of Harley's brother, even if they didn't hang out that much. He was a good guy, and his tattoos and prison time didn't intimidate her at all. "Merry Christmas," she wished him, reaching over to hug him with one arm. "You enjoying the holiday?" She knew it was his first out of jail in awhile, and she hoped it was turning into a good one for him.

"No shit?" Thad lifted a brow and nodded. "She must really be getting into it." Which wasn't like her really, but maybe she hadn't really had a reason to get into it before now. He smiled and hugged her with both arms. "Yeah, Merry Christmas. It's been good. You end up going to church?"

"She is, I think. I love her decorations. I didn't do a lot this year, so it's nice to come over here and see all this. All happy making and stuff." Really got a person in the mood. And Harley seemed happy to have everyone over, which made her happy. She leaned in and hugged him better, never sure how affection would be received from people these days. "Yeah, I did. Morning service. Lots of good singing, which was just what I wanted." It had felt good to do that, and to take communion, even if she knew deep down it wouldn't do much good for her. She thought about suggesting he come along sometime, he had seemed to show some interest, but she didn't know if it was appropriate.

"Yeah, we don't have that many decorations at our place either. I wasn't sure what to do and Kudzu was busy cooking," he added with a smile. "Anyway, glad you had fun at church. I mean, if that's a fun sort of thing." Was church supposed to be fun, was that doing it right or wrong?

"Anyway, uh, got a little something for you." He presented it to her, a very simple scarf and hat that he'd knitted. He hadn't wrapped them, but he'd folded them together and tied a piece of string around them. "I was thinking it might be a little warm for this, but Harley said it did get a little cold last year, so. Hope the hat's not too big. You probably have a ton of this sort of thing."

"It's supposed to be sort of fun, at least sometimes. You should come sometime, I'll come along too, if you want," she suggested, but wouldn't dream of pushing. Maybe it would get her back into going more often. If he didn't want to, it was no big deal.

Ariel grinned broadly as she took the scarf and hat from him, knowing instantly he'd made them himself. "I actually give almost all mine away, so I don't," she admitted, running her hands over the yarn. "They're wonderful, thank you." She hugged him spontaneously again. It actually meant a lot that he'd made them himself, since she'd given him the needles.

"Sure," he decided. Harley'd think it was a little woo-woo or whatever, but he didn't think it could hurt. Maybe he'd find something there. Whatever people found at that kind of place. "Just call the next time you want some company. I don't really care which one."

He figured she was just humoring him, but it was nice anyway. "I'll get better at it," he offered as he pulled back from the hug, smiling. "But I'm glad you like them."

"Maybe next week or the week after then," she suggested. Ariel rather thought it might be nice to have a bit of company, and she knew Harley thought religion was a bit out there, so she wouldn't even suggest it to her.

"It's a very good start," she said. "And they really are good." She plopped the hat on her head, and it was only a little big and still comfortable. She grinned broadly at him.

"It's better than I was doing months ago," he admitted. He got a lot of practice when he was up nights -- still. But it was paying off, at least, and he hadn't expected to still be enjoying it after the tedium of prison was gone. He laughed when she put the hat on, leaning against the counter while he reached out to straighten it. Didn't really help, but still.

"Suits you," he decided. "And thanks, for the needles and everything."

She grinned and wrinkled her nose at him playfully as he straightened the hat. It was cute; she would definitely wear it. He would get even better, but the early attempts were always fun as well, and it really wasn't that bad a try.

"Thankees," she said, patting the top of the hat. "My pleasure. I'm glad you get some use out of them. If you ever want to hit up my yarn stash, just let me know." She usually kept more than she could use at any given point.
