the place probably looked like santa threw up in it )
When it was almost time to eat, Thad dug into the bag he'd brought and made his way over to Ariel. Christmas gifts were more of a first-thing-in-the-morning thing, at least it seemed like they should be, so maybe he could get this part out of the way without making her wait even longer.
"Everything smells great," he said when he reached her.

"Anyway, uh, got a little something for you." He presented it to her, a very simple scarf and hat that he'd knitted. He hadn't wrapped them, but he'd folded them together and tied a piece of string around them. "I was thinking it might be a little warm for this, but Harley said it did get a little cold last year, so. Hope the hat's not too big. You probably have a ton of this sort of thing."

Ariel grinned broadly as she took the scarf and hat from him, knowing instantly he'd made them himself. "I actually give almost all mine away, so I don't," she admitted, running her hands over the yarn. "They're wonderful, thank you." She hugged him spontaneously again. It actually meant a lot that he'd made them himself, since she'd given him the needles.

He figured she was just humoring him, but it was nice anyway. "I'll get better at it," he offered as he pulled back from the hug, smiling. "But I'm glad you like them."

"It's a very good start," she said. "And they really are good." She plopped the hat on her head, and it was only a little big and still comfortable. She grinned broadly at him.

"Suits you," he decided. "And thanks, for the needles and everything."

"Thankees," she said, patting the top of the hat. "My pleasure. I'm glad you get some use out of them. If you ever want to hit up my yarn stash, just let me know." She usually kept more than she could use at any given point.
