The idea had struck her halfway through the day, and although she had had more than enough time to actually call and ask. Instead Ena had decided to go with showing up unannounced, mostly because if she knew her brother (and she did) he would have come up with some reason as to why he couldn't watch Leilani for the night. She had completely ignored the look Colby had given her as they left their house, completely aware of what her husband thought of this plan. Maybe she was a little evil, okay, not maybe. She was evil for doing this, but nobody ever died from having to watch a three month old for the evening. Ena was of the opinion that J.J. needed to get over this aversion to watching Lei, and she and Colby needed a night off. So she was killing two birds with one stone, even if one bird didn't know what was about to happen.
"Do you really think this is a good idea?" Colby asked for what felt like the millionth time, and Ena just rolled her eyes at her husband. "Yes, it's a perfectly acceptable idea and Jono will be just fine." She answered, smiling slightly. "And Lei will survive the night with him."
Colby just shook his head and muttered a 'Whatever you say, Eeny.' as they pulled up to J.J.'s house. He was humoring his wife, mostly because he had known her long enough now to know she wasn't going to drop this idea. All Colby hoped for was that it didn't blow up in Ena's face.
Ena grinned brightly, aware she had 'won' this conversation as she got out of the car and moved to the back passenger door to get Leilani. "Can you grab the diaper bag, please?" She called as she began making her way towards the front door, a bit of a devious smile gracing her features as she knocked on the door.
"Okay." Colby was less enthusiastic about this idea as he followed Ena up the walk. He was aware he had married this woman, loved her dearly, and that meant loving her hair brained ideas as well. "I had no part in this plan." He reiterated as Ena fished out her spare key to J.J.'s place.
She had seen the Jeep in the driveway, so she knew J.J. was here. A bonus was that she had noticed Erica's Honda in the drive behind J.J.'s jeep as well. She shouldn't be so gleeful about springing her daughter on her unsuspecting baby-sitters, and yet she was. "Jono, Erica?" Ena called out, realizing after the fact that they might be 'busy'. "Please tell me you're decent." She tacked on as Moose and Rufus, J.J.'s roomate's two dogs came to greet her and Colby at the door.
J.J. heard his sister's voice from the kitchen where he and Erica were busy making dinner. "In the kitchen." He called back, laughing at Ena's 'decent' comment. Of course his sister would go immediately to that thought since he and Erica had the house to themselves for the night. "Guess we have company, Ri." J.J. said right as Ena, Colby and Leilani appeared in the doorway of the kitchen.
"You won't have much company for long. " Ena piped up, the devious little smirk still pulling up the corners of her mouth. "Colby and I aren't staying." She continued, giggling at the way J.J.'s eyes were getting bigger and bigger.
"Eeny, you're not, you can't...." J.J. wasn't panicking, or he was trying not to panic at the idea of his sister leaving his niece here. "This is a bad idea." He added, glancing over at Erica for some kind of back up.
"It is not a bad idea." Ena replied dryly, moving into the kitchen further. "Your niece is not going to kill you." She added, finding a little bit of amusement in just how apprehensive J.J. was about this. "Plus you have Erica here, so you're not alone." As she spoke she handed Leilani off to J.J., who kind of stared at the three month old with a mix of panic and horror distorting his features. "Anyway, Colby and I will be back later and you have our numbers if you need us." Ena smiled as she backed out of the kitchen, making a quick exit before J.J. could try and give Lei back, or argue against this idea.
While his sister and brother in law made a speedy exit, J.J. just hoped his heart would start beating again and this panicky feeling would go away. "Bloody hell." He muttered as he realized they were on their own with Leilani for the evening.
