That had been.....well, an experience for sure. Awkward was probably a good word to use in this situation, and Sky hadn't exactly expected it to be that awkward. He had spent half the appointment wondering if he should excuse himself from the room and step back in during the ultrasound, because that was the only part he really wanted or needed to see. Because he didn't know if it would actually be more awkward to step out into the hall and be harassed by various nurses congratulating him on their kid. He didn't want to risk one of them asking if him and his 'wife' were happy about this, he was happy, but Mona wasn't his wife and God knows he didn't want to or need to explain to a stranger what their relationship was. Because although Sky wasn't sure he was a relationship kind of guy, this was a relationship of some sort, he wasn't and idiot and he could see that
( ... )
Mona wanted Sky to be as involved as he wanted to be, even if that level of involvement ended up being awkward in some ways. She would deal with the awkward if it meant that Sky was there with her, for her, through all of this. She was going to hang onto anything she could get with him, because a small part of her was still waiting for him to get sick of her and bail. She kept trying to convince herself that that wasn't going to happen, that she could trust Sky to be a man of his word, but that small, insecure part of her just wouldn't be convinced. So, she tried to convince herself that even if it did happen, if he did bail on her and the baby, she would survive it and be a good Mom this time around, but she was having a hard time believing that one, too.
"Let you? Sky, we're doing this together, so if you want to be at my appointments, then I want you to be at them, too." It was logical to her, anyway. To her, when it came to this baby, it was about them, not her, so there was really no other choice than sharing these things with

Today, this, it all made it that much more real. He was going to be a father, they were going to be parents. That word, they, it wasn't something Sky ever thought he'd be associating with him and Mona, or him and anyone really. A large part of him still didn't think he was the relationship kind of guy, shouldn't have the white picket fence, a wife and two point five kids. Even in thinking that though, he couldn't help but remind himself that he was halfway to the two point five kids, and a part of him had to think that in some odd sense he and Mona were creating a family, or at least something stable for this kid. Looking closer at why that was, well, it wasn't something Sky was ready to do just yet, but at some point he would need to figure out why he felt so strongly about this, why his mind kept going back to focusing on these things, on what this all meant for him and for Mona, and what his life, or their life would look like once their baby was born, or what his role would look like at that point
( ... )
Mona rather thought that they were together in a way, but she didn't know how to say that, or if saying that would cause issues. She didn't feel the need to put a label on whatever was going on between them, though she knew there were many people who would look down on them for not having a label. She didn't think it would help to point out that she probably wouldn't even be doing this if he didn't want to be a part of it, either. Her hand lifted to her mouth, and she started chewing on her already short thumbnail. "Guess so," she muttered, shrugging one shoulder. It was easier to just agree with him right now
( ... )
Sky really wasn't sure if Mona was just agreeing with him, or if she really agreed with his opinion. This was all a bit of a grey area, the way they were going about this whole situation. They weren't a couple, or at least not a traditional one by any means. A fact which had been amusing when the first nurse had congratulated the happy 'couple' on their bundle of joy. He was happy about the kid, which was still something he was adjusting to, the idea of being a father didn't unsettle him the way he thought it might, and part of him had to wonder if it was the fact that he was in this with Mona, and not some other woman, that made this all the more bearable. The idea of being attached to Mona in this way for the rest of his life, well, it wasn't an unpleasant one
( ... )
Having Sky pick her up at home had felt a little risky, but Mona knew that with Daddy at work and Mama doing last minute Thanksgiving dinner shopping, there'd be no way they'd run into Sky and she'd have to deal with the awkward of explaining that. She was just definitely not ready for that. "Oh, okay." She wondered if he'd offered to work the holiday, but she wasn't going to ask. "I'm off today, too," she said as she slid onto the bike behind him, holding onto him.
Mona rested her head against his back as they rode back to his place. She was surprised and disappointed that the motion was making her feel woozy. She'd really thought she was over the morning sickness, and when he pulled into his parking spot, she stayed on the bike for just a minute, willing her stomach to settle. Pulling off the helmet, she slowly shifted off the bike, her hand flinging out to hold onto the seat as she got dizzy when she stood up. "Fuck," she muttered, squeezing her eyes shut.
Somehow knowing where Mona lived settled something inside of him, gave him a place to find her if she ever stopped coming to him. The thought that he would seek her out if that happened was a surprising one, though not unwanted. They were in this together, and he was determined to be there for her, even if she tried to run. He liked the idea of the both of them being off today, not that he knew what they would do with their time, and maybe it was just the sheer fact that something inside of him felt calmer when Mona was around, less like he was pretending to be someone he wasn't. "Okay." Sky didn't think she was looking for much more of a response to her answer, and he definitely didn't dislike the feel of Mona on the back of his bike, pressed up against him. He was going to miss this when he finally broke down and bought a more 'kid friendly' vehicle, though he wasn't discarding the bike entirely

Mona leaned against Sky and nodded, not quite trusting herself to speak just yet. She still felt like she was going to vomit, and her head was still spinning. "Just motion sickness. Or morning sickness, or whatever." She murmured after a minute. The feeling started to pass, and she stood up a little straighter. "I'm good. Hope this shit stops soon, though. Tired of throwing up every fucking day," she muttered.
Mona pushed away from Sky, not because she didn't want to be close to him, but because it seemed stupid to just keep standing there when she felt like she could move now and there was a warm apartment waiting for them. She wasn't sure what they would do, she'd just known that she wasn't ready to go home, though she didn't really think there would be sex today. There was just something about getting a vaginal exam that completely turned one off sex for the day.
Sky tightened his hold on her slightly, relieved when she assured him that she was okay with a nod of her head. This was new to him, feeling protective over someone who wasn't family. Sure they had met when he pulled some guy off her, but that had been more about getting into a fight, and not a protective feeling towards her. "Everyday?" The question was more rhetorical. Sky wanted to be there for Mona, support her through this, as much as she would let him anyway. He wasn't there for the day to day, and part of him wanted to be, a large part of him actually. That wasn't his choice though, it was hers and he wasn't sure if she'd ever let him be a part of that portion of her life

“Yeah,” Mona answered even though she wasn’t sure he’d really been asking. “Fucking exhausting,” she muttered. She just really hoped that with the end of her first trimester, the morning sickness would go away. With her luck, though, it was probably pointless to hope for that. She’d heard horror stories of women who had morning sickness from start to end of their pregnancy, and it would be just her luck if that happened to her now. The thought made her queasy, and she pressed a hand to her stomach, grimacing slightly.
Mona walked with him to his apartment. She made a little humming noise as she considered his question. “Right now, not really, but feel free if you’re hungry,” she answered. She had a feeling that if she tried to eat right now, it would just come right back up. She figured she could just heat something up later if she did get hungry.
Sky wished there was something he could say or do to make this better for Mona, a part of him still felt as if she was keeping the kid because he wanted her to. Though he knew logically she wasn't, she had admitted to wanting this kid as much as he had, he wasn't forcing anything on her, this had been her decision. "Is there anything I can do?" He figured it was likely a pointless questions as there wasn't anything he could do about her morning sickness, but he could at least ask, at least remind Mona he was here and wanted to be involved.
Reaching the apartment Sky unlocked it and motioned for Mona to step inside before him. Nodding at her answer, Sky replied. "Nah, wasn't really hungry either." And he really wasn't, a now a part of him wondered what they would do now.
Mona shook her head at his question. "No, just gotta wait it out. It's supposed to ease off in the second trimester." And it would be just her luck if it didn't, but she could get through it. Hell, she'd gotten through the first trimester, and that had been fucking miserable most of the time.
Mona walked into the apartment, glancing back at him at his reply. "Okay," she said simply, moving out of the way and toeing her shoes off before heading over to the couch, sitting down and curling her legs under her. She wasn't really sure what to do now, but she would have no problem just relaxing with him. "So, what now?" she asked, her lips twitching in amusement because this really was new for them.
Sky nodded in understanding. "Okay." There really wasn't much else he could say to that, clearly Mona was the one having to deal with it and if she said there was nothing to be done, well he wasn't going to dwell on it. A part of him still wanted to know how he could be a part of this beyond going with her to her appointments and their random encounters.
He felt a bit at a loss. This was not their normal routine, and yet this was clearly how the day was going to go. Sky kicked off his own boots and dropped the keys to his bike on the table in the entry, moving into the kitchen after that. "Want something to drink?" he asked, catching her own question just after he'd spoken. What now? He didn't have any clue, though a voice in the back of his mind kept saying 'talk', which in reality they hadn't done much of. "Normal people generally talk about work and the weather as small talk, right?" He called from the kitchen, mostly joking.
"Sure," Mona answered as Sky went into the kitchen. "Just water. S'posed to be drinking it more." And she was trying so hard to do what she was supposed to with this baby. She'd even cut back to about three cigarettes a day, which was really good for her, and she hoped to quit entirely by Christmas. It was hard to imagine giving up that crutch, but she wanted this baby, she was happy about having it, so she was going to sacrifice what she wanted for him or her.
"Oh, ha ha," she muttered under her breath. Louder, she said, "Eh, normal's overrated. But if you insist - work sucks and it's chilly but probably going to get colder." When Sky came back into the room with their drinks, she took the water from him and said a quiet, "Thank you."
Sky made a mental note of that, figuring he'd try to keep bottled water around more often then. That was assuming Mona would be coming around enough to require that, he kind of hoped she would be. He wasn't going to assume anything though, life was easier if you didn't assume things. "What else are you supposed to be doing now?" He didn't know if the question was invasive or not, though as the father of Mona's baby Sky kind of thought he had a some kind of right to ask questions like that.
Fighting a smirk that wanted to appear, Sky instead quirked an eyebrow and replied. "What are the parameters for deciding 'normal' anyway?" He paused for a moment. "Work and the weather? Sounds like we're having a normal conversation right now." Sky wasn't prone to talking so much, and he just shrugged as she thanked him for the water. He kind of figured it was the least he could do, after all he was partly the reason she'd be drinking more of it in the coming months.
Mona shrugged. "Just take care of myself, I guess. Keep taking the prenatals, rest, eat right, and keep working on quitting smoking." Her doctor had been a little concerned that she'd lost a little bit of weight since getting pregnant, not because it was abnormal, but because she'd still been a little underweight to begin with. She was really hoping that with the end of her first trimester, the morning sickness would stop and she would be able to start gaining some
