Ava had been jonesing for something sweet, frothy and hot since she'd got home from work. It had been getting progressively cooler all evening, enough that she'd dug out her GW sweatshirt and a jacket when she'd gone back out to walk Wilbur, and had walked around the park with her hood drawn tight around her face. The wind was making it feel colder than it was.
It wasn't that she couldn't make a hot drink at home, but a Starbucks so close by was dangerous and always had been.
While the barista prepared her drink, she pulled out her phone, even though she had no emails to check or text messages to send, feeling the compulsory need to make herself appear busier than she was and ward off awkward encounters with people. It was probably something she should be getting better at now that she was seeing Dr Whitehall about her anxiety (among other things), but at this point it was more reflex than a fear of bumping into someone. Which was a sort of progress, she thought with a little smile as she grabbed her drink and took it over to a table.
