The last week had been incredibly busy. Jack hadn’t been sure if she’d actually hear from Rivkah after their conversation at Angel Abbey, so it had been a pleasant surprise when the woman had called her the next day. They had talked about the ideas they’d mentioned at the bar, and it seemed that Rivkah was committed to trying this, which Jack had to admit gave her the shove she needed to actually stop thinking and start doing. It was amazing to consider that a week ago, she’d been unemployed and listless. Now, she felt energized and excited in a way she honestly hadn’t been about work in years.
She had enjoyed her work at the hospital, of course, but there had been a lot of restrictions and rules that had often left her helpless and frustrated when it came to helping her clients. Running a non-profit foundation might be a total disaster, but Jack felt that this was a turning point in her life where she needed to take the chance and do something she’d dreamed about doing for years. They hadn’t finalized a name yet, which meant they couldn’t start filing paperwork and doing those technical requirements, but she knew they’d come up with something they both liked that encompassed the mission of their organization. Jack had decided that she was going to work out program ideas that covered everything they both wanted because if they were going to dream big, they needed to go all the way. It would be easy enough to trim things that didn’t work or weren’t necessary, after all.
The week had been spent looking at potential properties that would be affordable and centrally located, but also welcoming in a way they wanted. It had also been spent working her network of contacts, meeting former colleagues and associates to get insight on how to be successful with a non-profit and to discuss opportunities for volunteering and donations. There were several retired people that had reached out to her after hearing about their project through the grapevine, and Jack would never not be surprised at how fast word traveled in certain circles, so she already had a mailing list started of people who wanted to volunteer their time in certain areas to assist the women they hoped to help in a variety of areas.
It was now Saturday, though, and she’d decided to take a break. Well, a semi-break. She had her laptop with her so she could type up notes and work on some of the plans, but she was doing it at Avoca instead of her house, so it counted as taking a break. She’d had a conversation with a nice young man sitting next to her about his reading choice, after all, and she wasn’t sending off a ‘leave me alone’ vibe like she often did, so she wasn’t completely lost in work.
