Date: October 27th, 2011 Characters: Shoshana Wise, Adrienne Travis Location: Coffee Shop in Fort Worth Status: Semi-Private Summary: Shosh and Adrienne catch up over coffee. Completion: Complete
Adrienne had never been one for coffee, but espresso... Espresso was another matter entirely. She was looking forward to taking time to catch up with Shosh, but wasn't entirely sure how she was supposed to act.
Jase had finally filled her in on the break up and the details of over the weekend. She'd been suspicious and had finally cornered him with coffee, and oh, she hurt for him. But, on the other hand, Shosh had been honest, and he had said the break up had been amicable.
She ordered her drink before glancing around to find Shosh. Spotting her, she quickly made her way over to the table and dropped into the seat lightly, a pleasant smile on her face. "Hey, Shosh," she said lightly.
Shosh smiled in greeting as Adrienne dropped into the seat across from her. "Hey." She said, taking a drink from her coffee before she continued. "So how are you? How's the business going?" Shosh was realizing it had been awhile since she had seen Adrienne last, and she had no idea how Top Tier was doing going into the fall season.
She was itching to ask her friend's opinion of Cody, but would wait until the pleasantries were out of the way before she brought that up. Even if she was was curious as hell to know what Adrienne thought of him. Though in the back of her mind she was still wondering when or if the topic of Jase would come up.
Adrienne sighed slightly. "Business is good." And it had been, it just felt... overwhelming at times. Plus, there was the proposal Colin had brought up. Move closer to Nana, get out of Texas. And it was quite the intriguing idea. "It's been busy, swamped, really. But Erica's back now at The Affair, so I'm able to just concentrate on Top Tier," she explained.
She sipped at her drink, tilting her head slightly. "So how are you doing?" She was tempted to tack on since breaking Jase, but left it off. Jase said he had no harsh feelings for Shosh, but she could tell he was upset. If Colin and she did move out of Texas, she was suggesting Jase come with them. Sell or hire a manager for The Affair and start over fresh somewhere. Maybe coaching, he enjoyed volunteering to help with the junior high students enough any way.
Shosh quirked an eyebrow. "That sigh before 'Business is good' It makes me think that either business isn't as a good as you just said it was, or you're thinking about something else entirely." She commented, nodding when Adrienne said she was back focusing on Top Tier full time. "How is Erica doing anyway?" Shosh only had a passing knowledge of the other girl, but she was curious to know how she was doing

Adrienne shrugged slightly. "Business is good, but... Colin had an interesting thought the other day and we've been exploring it. I love Texas, it's home, but sometimes, a fresh start..." She trailed off, shrugging again. "As far as I know, healing more every day, according to Jase."
Enough time to do that, but not on her relationship with Jase, Ad' thought before tamping down on the spitefulness. "That sounds fun," she said, nodding. "I'd heard a little bit about it through a couple of people."
She blinked at the mention of the Hawthorne. "Yeah, a couple of nights. Court' must have seen me and mentioned it to Graham?" she asked, slightly confused. She doubted she'd made that much of an impression on the man. She certainly knew that she hadn't given him another thought after leaving that night. He hadn't deserved it, in her opinion.
Shosh couldn't keep herself from looking surprised. "You're thinking of moving away with Colin?" That seemed really fucking quick in her opinion, granted she had a feeling Adrienne wouldn't want her opinion on this. "Good, I'm sure it's a relief for him to have her back around the shop

"It's a thought. A possibility. Eloise is amazing, but no spring chicken," Adrienne laughed lightly. "And as much as I love my family... A fresh start, away from Texas, it sounds wonderful. But we haven't decided for certain yet." She shrugged. "I've known Colin for over a year now," she said softly, remembering the day that they'd walked into the restaurant he was working at like it was yesterday.
"I'm sure he would and I probably will. Maybe Colin, Alden, and I will make a day of it. It's definitely something I'm interesting in supporting, obviously." She gave a small smile, trying to diffuse the tension she was feeling.
She frowned hard, purposefully pausing and taking a sip of her own drink. "I was always told that if you don't have anything nice to say about a person, you shouldn't say anything at all," she said primly, before cracking another smile. "Seriously, Shosh. I'll just say that he didn't make the best first impression on me." Royal jerk, not the best first impression. To-may-to, to-mah-to.
"Do you really want to move?" Shosh asked honestly. "I get a fresh start and everything, have you really known Colin long enough to haul ass away from Texas with him?" She paused, nodding when Adrienne said she had known Colin for nearly a year now. "And you think a year is a long enough time?"
"Well I'll have horses out there for people to ride. You should stop by if you do come out." Shosh said, still very aware that whatever ease they once had in their friendship was lost. For all of Adrienne's talk about not letting Shosh and Jase's relationship or beak up affect their friendship, it obviously was.
Shosh trained her gaze on Adrienne, her curiosity making her ask this next question. "Didn't make a good first impression?" She asked, pausing before asking. "How so?" Granted Cody could get under her skin like nobodies business, but generally he was easy to get along with for most people.
"Honestly? I don't know. He's more than my boyfriend," she said softly. "Like I said, over a year. Jase and I hired him late summer... Right after my birthday last year, actually." And she'd never felt safer than she was with him. She met Shosh's eyes steadily. "I think, that if he decided he wanted to live closer to Eloise, I'd go with him."
"I will," Adrienne said, nodding. She didn't know why things were as tense as they were. She hadn't realized that she'd feel so bitter about this. But Jase... The words he'd said when he'd told her Shosh had dumped him... And those had been his words. Sure, he'd followed it up with that he'd agreed that their relationship hadn't been working, but... He'd also said that there must be something wrong with him, if he couldn't keep anyone interested long enough to try to make it work. And she knew better, knew that Jase was a catch for any woman
( ... )
Shosh didn't get it, wouldn't be able to do it. Pack up and move somewhere with someone she had only known a year. Maybe it came down to the fact that everyone truly close to her in her life she had known for years, most of whom were like family. A year just didn't seem like a sufficient amount of time to know someone, and she had to stop herself before she made some comment about people surprising you. Adrienne seemed to have her mind made up, and who was she to question the decision. "I just hope that if you do choose to move that you end up happy." She commented with a shrug.
"Good, look forward to it." Shosh said. She wasn't counting on things every being comfortable between her and Adrienne again. Clearly her friend had picked a side, and Jase was family, it made sense. Shosh didn't feel guilty though, she was trying to remain friends, and if Adrienne wanted to vilify her, well, she'd just treat her like everyone else who felt they had a right to judge her. She wasn't going to try and keep the friendship, not if she would
( ... )
"I think that's all I want. To be happy. And Col'... he does, he really does." It had been a long time of working towards what they had now, but they had it, and she didn't want to let it go. She paused slightly. "And it's not like I'd end up being by myself, I'm sure." She found Shosh's eyes. "If I left... it's not like there's much holding Jase here. He said it himself when I talked to him about it. He can open another shop anywhere." Sure, he'd built a client base in Texas, but a good reputation was a good reputation.
She frowned. "Stubborn, opinionated, sometimes a bit of a brat, I'll agree to. People who annoy me, I don't choose to call my friends," she said pointedly. "Maybe I haven't known you for a decade like some people, but that's not my fault, Shosh." She reached for her drink again, finishing it. She didn't know what the hell Shosh's problem was, but if she had to defend the friendship to the actual friend... Well, that was enough said right here.
"Well then do whatever makes you happy." Maybe she was more of a realist or had too many issues surrounding relationships, she just didn't think happily ever afters were achieved in a year of knowing someone. Shosh wondered what Adrienne was getting at, was she trying to make her feel guilty for ending things with Jase? Sighing she gave the other woman a serious look. "Look, I'm sorry things didn't work out between him and I." She said. "But I'm not going to be made to feel guilty that things didn't work out. If Jase is happy moving away from Texas, I wish him the best, I really do." And she did, because even if she hadn't been the right girl for him, she did hope he found someone who was perfect for him. "Have either of you thought about all the hoops that'll need to be jumped through in order to close or sell businesses down here?" Having gone through all the hoops herself in transferring North Tree into her own name, she knew it wasn't easy or fun
( ... )
"I will." She shouldn't feel the need to defend her relationship, her choices. Especially not to the woman that she had taken to calling her best friend over the past months. Adrienne blinked twice. "Well. Then. My intention wasn't to make you feel guilty, Shosh." It hadn't, actually. It had been to make a point, she supposed, but that point hadn't been to make Shosh feel guilty. She shook her head, amused. "Jase is a business major," she said softly. "He knows the ins and outs better than most people."
She crossed her arms, shifting in her seat and biting her tongue until Shosh had finished. "Fine." She leveled a look at Shosh. "Y'know, I find it real interesting that you defend him and his opinion to me when all I did was say that to me, you're not annoying. But whatever, Shosh, okay? So sorry about that." It was good to see where she sat in Shosh's social circle. Below the guy that Shosh herself had called a pain. She reached for her purse, hesitating as a thought struck her. "Y'know, I haven't had many close female friends in my
( ... )
Shosh wasn't trying to make her friend defend her relationship, she was simply voicing her thoughts on things. She had not right to tell Adrienne what she should or shouldn't do. Shosh shrugged. "Felt like it. Honestly, I think that you think you're hiding your displeasure well, Ad'. But I can read it in your actions, you're upset with the fact that I ended things with Jase. Though you haven't even bothered to ask for my side of the break up story, instead you're choosing to think the worst of me I'm sure." She paused, sighing softly. "You're the one that made me promise we'd stay friends if things didn't work out with Jase, and yet you're the one making it hard to keep that promise right now." Shosh shrugged again. "Okay." She wasn't going to push to find out what their plans were for leaving, apparently they had thought everything through

Adrienne sighed. "I don't know if I'd use the word upset," she muttered before raising her voice slightly. "I'm protective of Jase, I always have been, Shosh. You know that. And yeah, he said it was amicable..." She trailed off slightly, giving herself a shake. She wouldn't tell Shosh how broken Jase was over the situation. "What's your side then?" she asked quietly.
"I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt," Adrienne started, then stopped, rolling her eyes. Some guy she'd met once wasn't worth this to her. "Look. Like I said, he didn't make the best first impression on me, but who the fuck cares?" She rarely cursed, but she was upset. She didn't have to like this guy, she'd probably never even see him again and she didn't know why Shosh was making such a big deal about it.
"I don't fucking know anymore, Shosh. I didn't think so, but fuck. I come to meet with you and you pick a fight about some guy I've met once? The same guy that you've said, on more than one occasion, is a pain? It just doesn't make sense to me." It
( ... )
Shosh didn't catch whatever it was that was muttered, and clearly Adrienne didn't feel like she should hear it so Shosh wasn't going to ask about it either. "I know you're protective of him, Adrienne. Doesn't give you the right to be so fucking passive aggressive with me, it's not like I cheated on him or something. We just didn't work out." She tried to keep her tone even as she spoke. "Would it really matter? You just said yourself that you're protective of Jase, so do you really want to hear my side of things? Will it really have any effect on how you feel?" She asked honestly
