Luckily there was at least one door to Sam's parents' place that was wheel chair accessible. Or as accessible as it could be. Jake was used to having a harder time navigating some places these days.
He smiled at Sam as she answered the door, reaching out to draw her down into a hug. "Hey there," he said. "How's it going?" he asked as he wheeled slowly inside.

At least she wasn't feeling much weakness today. That might have been the thing that pushed her over the edge. "How are things with you? It's nice getting to break the ritual today." Sunday visits were great, but more often than not they had company. While she loved her family, and his family, it was nice getting time with Jake when she could talk freely. "Nice having the house to myself for a week, too. I told Dad that he and Mom should make cruises a bi-monthly thing." She laughed.
"Drink?" Sam asked, grabbing the glass from his place at the table.

"Things are all right. School is keeping me busy, Star is keeping me hopping, and I'm keeping myself rather occupied." Though he and Neve had always kept up rather well, he was trying to see her a little more often. It was somewhat time consuming, but he really enjoyed seeing her more often. "I bet you're enjoying it," he said. "Though you'll miss them a bit after awhile, I'm sure."
THough perhaps the difference was that he was used to having his parents around, even if they were occasionally overbearing. But for someone like Sam, he was sure it was a lot worse. "Well, once Drew is out you know you're welcome to the spare room," he told her seriously. "Mm, water, please," he said. "Anything I can do to help?

"Yeah, I know," she said when he brought up the extra room. "And don't think I'm not sorely tempted." She poked him lightly in the arm. "I just don't want to end up putting you in the same mental category with Mom."
She gestured to the table of barbecue, buns, cole slaw and potatoes. "What you see is what you get. Beyond that, you're on your own. I think Dad and I did pretty well this time around. The sauce is almost perfect." She poured some filtered water from the pitcher in the fridge and sat it in front of Jake before joining him at the table.
