New York had been good, in more ways than one. Having Dustin lash out in front of the lawyers last Monday, while not pleasant, had been helpful. One restraining order later, and the news that he was only allowed supervised visits with Layla, only when she wanted them, and only in Texas was just icing on the cake.
And Saturday had been fun. Seeing their old haunts through slightly more mature eyes and then going out had been... interesting. It had been good to run into Mark again, Maureen thought as she set the table. Had opened her eyes a little to possibilities she hadn't expected. Possibilities that Charisma was pushing her towards, and her sister made good sense. But she had missed Piers, quite a bit, especially as it seemed their schedules just hadn't meshed up since they had gotten back to Texas. Really, it was her schedule, feeling guilty about taking time off right after the Fourth of July and working as much as Dess needed her.
They were fixing that though, starting tonight. Layla was at Dess's while Charisma was working late, giving Maureen and Piers plenty of time to talk. She checked the clock in the kitchen, smiling to herself. Just enough time to change into a light dress and freshen up a bit from cooking.
