Somehow while he'd been writing, it'd become summer. At least unofficially. He'd been deep in words for a while. Too long, his sister might claim. He'd only recently started to come out of the fog of words that had been clouding up in his brain.

He had 100,000 words of something. He wasn't ready to call it a novel yet. He'd said as much in his email to his editor.

So celebration time. Pizza and beer. Or whatever. He smiled at the woman who came up to get his order. "Large pizza with everything and whatever beer you would recommend goes best with that."

Courtney was pleased with how the night was turning out so far. There was a good turn out for karaoke tonight and she couldn't be more pleased by how the time was going. She walked over to the man who had walked in and sat down at the bar. "Good evening, handsome - what can I get you?"

When he said what he wanted to order, she grinned. "You got it," she said, then told him the beer that would go best with the pizza he had ordered. "I'll go put this in and get your drink to you. If you need anything else, my name is Courtney." Courtney put in his pizza order before making his drink and setting it down on a bar napkin in front of him. "Try that out and if you don't like it, let me know."

The handsome thing made him blush, but thank Calliope and Erato, the beard hid most of it. Wendy had bugged him for recent pictures and he'd finally just sent her some and then copied the rest of the family on them. Wendy had laughed and told him how he wasn't hardly old enough to have a beard and mustache like that. Joe had liked it, Susan had told him the beard made him look older (for once!), and his fathers were in tech week and on location (in Minnesota, quelle horror) respectively, so they hadn't seen the email yet. He was determined not to shave it yet. It was, no pun intended, growing on him.

"This is excellent. Thank you, Courtney. I'm Blaise, by the way." Because it was polite to give someone your name after they had introduced themselves, wasn't it? He wasn't much of a beer drinker, but whatever she had given him was amazing.

Courtney grinned when he said it was excellent. She was a pretty good judge of what went well together with their menu items. After ten years, she ought to be. "Glad to hear it," she smiled. "It's very nice to meet you Blaise," she said, shaking his hand. "Is this your first time in here or have you been to the Hawthorne before?" Courtney didn't recognize him but that didn't mean anything. There were dozens of people that came through throughout the week but she liked to know the people she served. It made the time go by quicker she figured.

"First timer. But I'm coming back. I will definitely be coming back." Blaise assured her, she had lovely hands. "I'm treating myself to something fun and interesting and new after just having finished a really huge project."

"Can just anyone join the singing?" Blaise was contemplating karaoke. How hard could it be?

"I'm glad that you'll be coming back," Courtney said, grinning. She was always happy when she heard that people would return to the Hawthorne after their first time coming by. It was nice and really said a lot about their atmosphere and them. "Oh really? What kind of project?"

Courtney raised her eyebrows and grinned. "Anyone can certainly join in on the singing. Just go over, pick out your song and go for it - I'll bring your pizza over as soon as it's finished."

"A writing project, a book actually." Blaise didn't mind telling her that much. He was still coming to grips with the idea that the massive amount of words in sentences that were strung together with a loose sort of plot actually counted as a novel. Something that someone else would pay money for later on. It boggled his mind.

Blaise grinned, "I'll do that then. Thank you." He was thinking of a Journey song, maybe one of the Rent songs if they had them loaded up there.

Courtney's eyebrows shot up. "Oh really? What do you write?" she asked, not able to help herself. She wondered if he would have any advice for Brendon when it came to writing. She sat a plate down in front of him with napkins, silverware set and cheese and red pepper.

"This is going to seem a little odd but...would you have an advice to an aspiring writer? My friend, he's been writing for a while now and I know at some point, he'll think about getting his stuff published." She paused before she laughed softly. "I'm sorry, you're here to escape that craziness for a little bit."

Courtney heard the bell signaling an order up. "That might be yours. Let me grab that pizza for you and I'll be right back."
