It probably would have been easier to order something on-line and have it delivered, Nora thought to herself in bemusement. Now she had to not only worry about picking something out, but also getting it packaged and shipped, and all hopefully in time for Sarah's birthday. But she liked seeing her purchases in person, she admitted silently as she browsed the stuffed animals, wondering if Sarah would like a plush pony, or if she'd been more keen on something more fanciful like a unicorn. Picking up the unicorn up, she considered it a moment, before also reaching for the pony, and looking at them both ( ... )

The little girl had decided that no matter what her Mama said, she was going to get the giant giraffe, and was attempting to drag said stuffed animal in the direction of her Mama when a voice caught her attention. Turning to look at the woman, Sloane smiled brightly, tilting her head while she studied both the pony and the unicorn. "Does she already have a pony?" Sloane asked as she moved towards the woman, pulling her own massive stuffed animal along beside her ( ... )

"Sarah doesn't have a pony because she lives in the city," Nora handed the little girl the stuffed toy to let her look at it. "And the place where her mama took her to try and get lessons said she had to wait until she was six." She nodded to the other woman as she walked up, then looked back down. "Sarah's four, y'see, so I thought maybe she'd like a toy pony until she can learn to ride. But she likes pretending she's a princess, and I thought a princess should have a unicorn. So I'm kind of stuck. What do you think? Do you like one better than the other?"

Sloane grinned. "Oh, I live on a ranch." the little girl gave as way of reply. Taking the offered toy, she studied it. "Really? Mama lets me ride all the time." Sloane remarked as she turned the toy over in her hands. The little girl's face lit up when the curly haired woman mentioned that her cousin was four. "I'm four." Sloane replied happily.

Handing the toy back to the woman, Sloane continued talking. "Princesses don't have to have unicorns, they have ponies too." she pointed out matter of factly. "I like ponies better, you can kiss their noses without getting hit by a horn." Sloane remarked, talking as if it was absolutely possible that unicorns were just as real as ponies.

Shosh just watched the exchange, laughing softly at her little girl's enthusiasm.
