Maureen had woken up super early, full of what Layla would call Thinky Thoughts and hadn't been able to shake them. She was worried about Dess and Adam and everything going on there. She'd have to make a point to give Adam a call sometime in the next week, maybe see if Layla wanted to watch Ethan or something.

But, since she had gotten up so early, she had slipped out of the place without Layla or Charisma knowing and made her way to the park. Hopefully a run would turn her brain off. She was just settling into her pace when she noticed the jogger ahead of her fall, worry instantly setting in. She slowed, carefully making her way to where he had rolled. "Hey, there. You okay?" she asked, kneeling next to him. "Looked like a doozy of a spill."

Piers sat there and blinked as a woman approached him off the path. It briefly occurred to him to apologize for ruining her run, "Umm yes, I should be fine in a minute. Just lost my footing and the rest of it just happened." He groaned. In a few minutes he was going to be mortified that he had done this in public.

"I'm not usually such a klutz."

Maureen laughed slightly. He seemed to be okay, just had the breath knocked out of him. "Hey, I saw the whole thing. That rock totally jumped out and tripped you." She teased lightly, sticking around for a couple of moments to make sure he really was okay.

He gave out a weak laugh that turned into a wheeze. "Yeah, perhaps I should arrest it for assaulting an officer." Piers joked. "Thanks for stopping though and sorry to have up ended your run." He struggled to stand up as he shook the cobwebs out of his head. "Were you just starting or ending?"

"Just starting, but don't worry about it." A cop. What were the odds that she'd meet another one, off-duty, so soon after meeting Rico?

Maureen eyed him, that wheeze didn't sound so good. "You sure you're okay?" she asked, standing up and reaching out to steady him as he did the same. "You look a little dazed."

He felt a little better hearing that she had a chance to get her run started properly. Waving off her concern Piers nodded. "Oh I'm fine really. Just thinking about trying my run again My brains are a little rattled but provided my ankles hold I going to try over again." He admitted.

Maureen eyed him carefully. That had been a pretty bad fall, but who was she to stop him. "If you're sure you're okay..." She shrugged and pushed her hair back. "You look a little shaky," she added, stretching as she felt her muscles start to tighten up.

"Yeah, I'm sure." He got to his feet and shook his head. "I need a good run so I can eat a huge breakfast." Piers admitted "And that I was sitting in a car for 48hours so I need to just not think for a while. You know what I mean?"

Maureen shrugged. "The not thinking part, sure. The sitting in the car part for forty-eight hours? Not so much."

Running cleared her mind, something that she desperately needed right now. But for some reason she was lingering over this small conversation. She smirked a little to herself. Maybe it was something to do with those piercing baby blues.

"Trust me sitting in a car for 48 is not something I wish on my worst enemy much less a kind Samaritan who stopped to check up on a klutz."

Feeling a little more steady Piers started to stretch his legs again. "Well since I halted your run, care to have a running partner? I promise not to be too chatty." He told her with a grin.

She paused and then nodded, grinning. "Sure. I can keep an eye out for any dangerous looking rocks that may jump in your way," she said, teasing him lightly as she continued stretching. "And you can be as chatty as you like - as long as you can multi-task. I'd hate to see you take another fall because you were jogging and talking at the same time."

"I'm Maureen, by the way," she added.

"Much obliged." He said with a chuckle and joined her in the stretching. It was amazing how much a body tightened up after being tossed down a hill. Piers was a little surprised that she didn't mind talking through a run as most preferred silence.

"Pleasure to meet you Maureen, although I admit to wanting to look a little more graceful. I'm Piers. I am however I can multitask enough to do both or at least I hope I can."

"Nice to meet you, too. And I hope so. Would hate to see you fall twice in one day. Might start questioning my faith in the police if they employ such accident prone men." She grinned cheekily at him before nodding to the path. "Shall we?"

Nodding, Piers headed back up the embankment, he supposed he was lucky that he hadn't been near the pond or something. Some how going back all wet wasn't his idea of a good time either.

"Yeah I'd wonder about me working for the department too if I couldn't stay on my feet."

It wasn't hard to get into an easy pace and thankfully the path was clearer. "So do you run out here often?"

"Out here? Not often," she said, letting him set the pace. "I try to do different routes, keep from getting tired of the same path. You?" She did new trails to make herself concentrate on where she was going rather than why she was running. It felt like she was always running for a reason anymore, not just for the joy of it.

Piers shook his head. "I usually stick closer to home but this park is closer to the diner where I'm planning on stuffing myself full of pancakes and sausages. So it just made more sense. Although now I really wish I could just have a beer but it's way to early for that." He told her with a grin.

Maureen was a good runner and kept a comfortable pace. "Any paths you might suggest?"
