Room 308, Sunday Evening

Rikku had handwavily picked up Ruba from Fight Club while Rede was still kicking butt and taking names, because Ruba was wee and had an earlier bedtime. Of course, Ruba was too wound up to actually go to sleep any time soon. Rikku had just resigned herself to that when inspiration struck.

Spira ... had cell phones now. Or at least, a few, if they were in range, if they were at all charged up, and she dialed the number that was supposed to be Pops and waited ... and waited ... come on ...

There was a thick hiss of static, then her brother's voice in her ear. "Fryd ec ed?"

"Go get Pops," she said. "Hurry. It's an emergency."

Okay, it wasn't a world-on-fire emergency, but really, the signal could drop at any time. She chewed her lower lip waiting while Ruba tried to tickle Petey.

"Kiddo?" This voice was gruff, with hints of worry leaking through. "Better be somethin' big for making me run like that."

"It is," Rikku said, pulling little one and Petey both onto her lap. "It's huge. Nothing's wrong, though. I mean, I'm okay. I just ... someone wanted to say hi to you."

She handed the phone to Ruba, who was already bouncing in her seat. "HI, POPPA CID!"

Rikku was somewhere between giddy and trying not to tear up as she listened to her daughter chat happily to her father. He wasn't going to meet Ruba properly for a few years, but that didn't mean he should miss getting to say hello.

(OOC: Rikku is going to try to make a few phone calls to alums she knows as well as people back home -- if you are off-island and want to chat with the wee one, drop in!)
