Tomorrow is one of H's birthday, and I'm in charge of the cake. I baked an eggnog cake and 'mmmmm' my house smells so yummy now. I'm pretty proud of my efforts - the first time I've ever truly piped designs - so I thought I'd share them. :)
It's a tad overcooked, and I'm afraid the cake will be dry. :( I shouldn't have left it in the oven for five more minutes, but I was afraid it wasn't cooked through when I checked. In hindsight, I should've taken it out then and left it. Oh well. I'll know better for next time.
Hopefully the icing will make up for it. :)
Okay, it's not perfect, but I thought it was a good effort! The white icing I spiked on purpose so that it'd look more like fir on a Christmas tree. The holly is spiked because I didn't know how to lift the pipe bag without the icing spiking. :P Piping, especially in such small dimensions, is a lot harder than I imagined; professional cake decorators totally have my admiration!
A close-up. I wish the red wasn't so pink, but it didn't seem to matter how much dye I added. It wanted to be pink. Oh well. They're cute in their own way, I suppose. ;)
Hopefully, H will like her cakes tomorrow.
