Anna/Tatty/Jack:The Carpark/Roof

Apr 06, 2005 02:42

Anna's head jerked backwards when she heard the yelling and screaming coming from outside the extra cafe. What was going on down there? Tai-San was, if Anna remembered correctly, the really spiritaul one. A face popped up in her mind and she nodded to herself, wodingering what had happened to her. When she turned back, Anna could tell that Jack was ( Read more... )

Jack walked beside Anna towards the carpark stairs, glad that the net with the wilting flowers from the wedding was still obstructing the view to the downstairs. He didn't want to see what was going on, and he didn't want Tatty or Anna to be scared either, surely it was simply a cry for attention, or a diversion. He could hear the heated tones downstairs, the accusations, the worry, the panic, but Jack just couldn't bring himself to draw these two kids into it. It sounded like it was all under control, he would be of little to no help ( ... )

Tatty's hand fluttered to the tatting shuttle on his belt, nervous, wanting to tat, but he couldn't really walk and tat too well, and if they were to take stairs he knew better than to try and tat at the same time. Jack ditched them as soon as they entered the stairwell, and Tatty looked to Anna with wide eyes as the door slammed. "Do..do you know the way?" He felt a string of conversation following quickly behind those words, "What, how do I wish on a star, Anna? Flower, she asked me to, I, I said I would, but I don't know how. What," he was nervous and agitated, unsure of himself.

Anna was startled when the door slammed behind Jack as he disappeared back the way they'd come. They looked vaguely familiar, which they should from earlier in the day, but a lot had happened since then."Yeah...I do..." Anna murmured while thinking:sorta... Giving Tatty a reassuring smile, Anna carefully started up the steps. The shoes she wore made it so that she had to go slowly or risk a broken ankle. She also figured that if it took them long enough, Jack would reappear before they got to the top. When Tatty asked the second question, Anna paused and looked back at him ( ... )

As they went up the stairs, Jack made sure to walk behind Anna, she had shoes on that were like the ones earlier, different, but surely she could trip in those. Is that what had happened to Tai-San, she'd tripped on her shoes? If Jack remembered correctly, she hadn't been wearing shoes at the ceremony, but he hadn't been paying a lot of attention to her either. He didn't want Anna to trip down the stairs, how frightening, he'd, well he just didn't know what he'd do if she fell. Plus, Ryan would blame Jack, it wouldn't be pretty, and poor Tatty, the last thing he looked like he needed was, well that.

As they reached the top landing at the top of the stairs, Jack moved around Anna and pulled the door open, "Now just two more half flights and we'll be on the roof. If, if you get too cold or anything just let me know," he was speaking more to Anna than anything, as Tatty had that jacket on, but he looked to Tatty to make sure he knew he was thinking of him as well.

Tatty repeated the poem in his head all the way up, trying to remember exactly what Anna had said. He wanted to get it right, he didn't want to let Flower down and do it wrong, he guessed. If he saw a shooting star, did that mean he could have two wishes tonight? Maybe he would see one...whatever that was anyway. He seemed to remember something about shooting stars, from when he was a kid, but he didn't know for sure.

As Jack pulled the door open and warned them about being cold, Tatty nodded and then turned his eyes to the ground, reaching out to take Anna's hand. He wanted to be sure he got the poem right and he remembered the wish exactly before he looked up, cause he wanted to be able to do it the minute he saw his first star. Giving Anna's hand a squeeze, he didn't look up but waited for her to lead him out onto the roof.

The heels clacked noisely against each stair. In her mind, she made more promises about not wearing heels up to the roof again. Anna had thought this last time, and yet, she was wearing them again. Briefly she entertained the idea of taking her shoes off and going bare foot as they'd down in the woods. This idea dimmed as she remembered how rough the roof had been. There were lots of little rocks and sharp objects. Anna would rather endure the uncomfortable heels that cut her foot to shreds. Pausing in the stairwell, she watch Jack reached around her and open the door. His offer of a jacket had Anna's mind pausing. Would it be cold up there? It hadn't been earlier, only windy. Now though, the sun was bascilly set and the wind would probably still be there. Wearing the thin jacket that she was, Anna kicked herself over the choice of clothes ( ... )

Jack followed Anna and Tatty out of the door to the outside flight of stairs, then up onto the roof. The sun was nearly set now, you couldn't see it any longer, but the sky had turned pink and purple, it would be a while before it was dark enough to see stars. "Oh, wow I thought, after dinner and everything, I thought it'd be dark enough for stars," he sounded disappointed but quickly brightened up. "Well, watching the sunset will be nice, and soon the stars will be out. It, well it has to be sort of dark, but not you know, completely dark, before you can see most stars, but some are very bright, and ever since the, well since after, since less lights are on in the city, you can see the stars a lot, well before they are supposed, to well, to come out," Jack's voice trailed off as he reached the end of his speech, stopping to clear his throat ( ... )

Tatty walked with Anna, letting her lead him up the stairs, refusing to look up. He kept his ears open, listening as Jack went on about it being too bright out still, glancing up at him as he trailed off and cleared his throat. Tatty looked up at Anna, his eyes grazing the skyline as he did this, letting out a breath of relief when he didn't see a star before he was ready ( ... )

The cool wind tickled Anna's legs as she followed behind Jack and Tatty. Jack's voice floated back to her as he suggested either the crates or the ground. Her eyes looked to crates, then cut back to Jack as he kicked a rock with his foot and it bounced off the roof. She smiled at him. "I think if you hit someone, you'd know. They'd probably make a noise or something." Anna suggested, taking a seat on the crate. It occured to her that these were the same crates from earlier, and her face flushed. She was thankful of the fact that night was upon them and it would soon be too dark to see anything such as someone blushing ( ... )

Jack continued to kick the few rocks and things out of the way before stopping and glacing at Tatty, focusing on the star. Jack's gaze followed Tatty's to the star, making a small wish of his own, winking before looking back at Anna on the crate. Jack moved to sit next to her, leaning forward a bit on his hands and looking at her. "Yeah, it gets dark, you know, before things, the lights in the city would have drowned out any visibility but now that we use less power, and you know, less lights are on, well, then we can see more," he blushed briefly as he glanced at the rooftop then up to the sky ( ... )

Tatty listened as Jack blathered on about stars and visibility, he actually found it quite fascinating, but he wouldn't ask questions, he couldn't. Swallowing the lump in his throat down, Tatty realized it had been hours since he'd tatted, hours upon hours, and he was feeling quite anxious. It would be hard to tat in the dark, but he'd done it before, in less light than this, merely by touch and habit. Reaching to his shuttle pocket he deftly unbuttoned the flap and pulled out the small shuttle, already loaded with a bobbin of thread ( ... )

Anna tilted her head up thoughtfully watching as more stars started to pop out around her. Jack was talking about the city scape, and Anna let her eyes drift down and glance out. It was certainly more dark than Anna remembered. "I think I like the city darker. Its comforting in some ways." Shrugging her shoulders, she kicked lightly at the ground. "Besides, it was always much darker in the woods." Smiling softly, Anna became aware how close he was sitting to her as he pointed out a constellation over their heads. Her face was heating up again ( ... )

Jack was speechless, his mouth actually hung open as he listened to Anna point out the constellations he knew all too well. He didn't have to look up, he could almost find them in his mind, from the picture he had in there. "Wow, I, wow, you," he babbled, blushing as he watched Tatty sit down and become engrossed in whatever it was he did ( ... )

She smiled as Jack babbled at her. It was cute when babbled, made him very endearing. Trying to push the thoughts out of her head, she shook her head at Jack's question. Anna'd never even heard of the constellation. Would he think she was stupid for not knowing it. Her eyes found where his finger. "I...I guess you learn something new every day." She swallowed, "We...uh, I wasn't terribly old.. I mean, they just showed us the basics." She rambled on, shaking her head. "You must have books with all of these in them..." Now it was she babbled ( ... )
