Well, it's finally out of the bag ... I'm asking for your vote for a fan fund trip, to the Japanese Worldcon!

There are seven nominees on the ballot, all good and wonderful people, but as I'm one of them, I'm asking for your vote!

Voting forms are Here (PDF) and here (RTF/Word doc) or you can vote by paypal/email by copying the information from ( Read more... )

Well, yes, no, and yes ...

there are seven "people" you can vote for, one of whom is actually two humans (Teddy and Tom) and there are eight options for voting (but one of those is "no preference")

So you can vote 1 to 8, but there are only seven nominees (hmmm, or so I think I'd argue ... but you're right there are eight humans involved)

A 'nominee' is 'a person who is nominated'. So there are 8 options on the ballot paper, and 8 nominees, but only 7 of the options include humans. Simple :-)

The Japanese Expeditionary Travel Scholarship (JETS) is a special fund created for the purpose of assisting a European science fiction fan, elected by popular vote of other European fans, to travel to and attend Nippon 2007, the 65th World Science Fiction Convention which will be held on 30 August to 3 September 2007 in Yokohama

Therefore only a single human being can be nominated ("a European science fiction fan") and you'd exclude Teddy and Tom for currently inhabiting two bodies! Since they are running as a conjoined pair (grin!) they are a single nominee

(ok, this has remained silly! I have absolutely no objection to Tom & Teddy being a single candidate (we're past the nominee stage now since we've had the names) even if the rules say it's for "a fan", I think it represents the best of anarchic SF fandom and friendship!)

So JETS worded itself wrongly, but has corrected the error in deed (if not in document). However, 'nominee' is still 'a person who is nominated', so T&T are two nominees who can only be voted for singly as a conjoined option :-)
