Well, it's finally out of the bag ... I'm asking for your vote for a fan fund trip, to the Japanese Worldcon!
There are seven nominees on the ballot, all good and wonderful people, but as I'm one of them, I'm asking for your vote!
Voting forms are
Here (PDF) and
here (RTF/Word doc) or you can vote by paypal/email by copying the information from the ballot and emailing it to alison@kittywompus.com and paypal the appropiate voting fee (see below) to the same email address.
The voting fee is £3 or 5 euros (if you vote via paypal/email then the minimum voting fee is £4 or 6 euros to cover paypal costs), though you can donate more.
All voting fees, plus at least £1,000 from Interaction (2005 Worldcon) will be given to the winner to go to Japan, visit Japanese fans, attend the worldcon, represent Europe and send back a trip report.
If you were thinking of sending me a Christmas card and/or present, you could vote for me instead (grin!)
Voting closes the week after the 2007 Eastercon (
Contemplation) (which you should also join!) but vote now! (You *can* vote more than once, but only your final ballot form will be counted, though the money for each vote will be gratefully received!)
The following people are eligible to vote:
Voting is open to any science fiction fan based in Europe who has been active in fandom since 1 January 2005 and/or who was a member of Interaction, and who contributes at least £3 or 5 euros to the fund alongside their vote.
So if you've attended a convention (including a German filkcon!) since January 1st 2005, written a fanzine, attended a fannish meeting, contributed to a fannish newsgroup or other online fannish forum (such as a mailing list) and are either European or were a member of Interaction, the 2005 Worldcon (EDIT: which will include a fair number of my US friends, though the wording is ambiguous! I have been informed that the intent was that only European fans should vote on this so lets make it easy on the administrators and follow the spirit of the rules, no US fan votes unless you're based in Europe), then you can vote for me!
And as I say in my platform, if you vote for me (and send me your postal address) if I win, I'll send you a postcard from Japan!
Voting is done by a preferential ballot. List your first choice with a "1", second choice with a "2" etc. and at some point put "No preference". When the votes for first place are counted, if there isn't a clear winner, then the person with the lowest number of "1" votes is eliminated and all the "2" votes on those ballots are counted and this continues until there's a clear winner ("no preference" can not win, and can not be eliminated, but also isn't counted, so eventually if there are 40% of the votes for me and 60% for "no preference" then I win!)
