Shattered faith?

I've seen the new Star Trek movie and I think I've lost faith in future series films by Abrams. I'm an avid fan of the series. I own all of Voyager, Next Generation, The Original Series, and most of Deep Space Nine. I've never felt so insulted since Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. I personally didn't mind the movie so much but I see exactly your point. The whole...this isn't REALLY the Kirk and Spock you know is somewhat lame for such a hyped up movie. I did go in to the theater with a very negative idea of how the movie was going to come out. So I was happy that it was better for me then "sucked". I also went with my Dad who enjoyed it since he was one of the Original fans. He saw Star Trek when it first aired on TV when he was only 14 years old back in 1966.

I think part of the problem with the whole no family chemistry between characters was the fact that they picked each individual actor based on their looks, talent, fan base. ETC. Does Zachary Quinto look a hell of a lot like Spock? You bet. But did he have the dedication to really figure out who "Spock" is like Leonard Nimoy did? No. He was a bland Vulcan who could have passed for any Vulcan in the series. And the whole Uhura <3 Spock thing bugged the crap outta me.
