Normally, Charles had a remarkably good rein over his powers. Ever since he first learned that he could use them, he'd trained himself carefully in order to prevent any mishaps. Although Charles often did put his telepathy to use on the vast majority of people, he had promised to never read Raven's mind again, and for years he had kept that only ( Read more... )

Claire found herself developing a habit of wandering the hotel when she had nothing better to do, and now was no different. Most of the doors were closed, all manner of lewd noises muffled behind them. She was used to it by now, and was able to walk down the hallways relatively unfazed by the activity surrounding her, save for a tiny bit of warmth in her groin - but that was mostly from the aphrodisiacs in the air.

Happening by an open door, she was unable to resist the urge to peek inside, her curiosity getting the better of her. She'd ended up meeting some pretty interesting people that way, so it was something she'd started to feel less guilty about. As she stepped inside the room and spotted the young man at the window, her mind suddenly exploded with... thoughts. Her first thought was that she'd stumbled on a telepath, only she was quite sure that telepathy didn't work that way. They could her her thoughts, not the other way around. Maybe the stranger was an some sort of empath, capable of projecting his ability on ( ... )

He wasn't an empath, but he was able to communicate with other minds - a trick that he had found to be quite useful at home, but was a little more than unfortunate here as Charles begins to realize what is happening. Not only are the bounds of his own mind open, but he's transmitting to others, as well.

His fingers slip up to his temple, pressing against there in a familiar gesture, trying to calm his own mind. But it's not a matter of willpower in this case. It doesn't work.

"My apologies," Charles said, his words a little stilted. "This has never happened before."

"It's okay," she returned, "this place tends to do funny things to people. My ability's gone funny a couple of times." Claire was pretty sure it was the first time she ever felt completely comfortable talking about her ability to a complete stranger. But given the circumstances, she figured it was safe enough.

She felt sorta useless, not knowing how to help, because she was pretty sure he was in distress. "Um, would it help if you sat? I- I dunno if there's really anything I can do for you." Except maybe distract him. There had to be something to do around here other than have sex. Maybe some board games...

Her ability. Were it on any other occasion, Charles would have immediately struck up a conversation on the topic. The intricacies of mutation, the vast amount of possibilities when it came to powers - all of it was incredibly fascinating to Charles. Claire's power in particular would have been interesting simply because of the way it pushed medical limits.

Perhaps her thought of a distraction was apt after all. Fighting down the urge to groan at a particularly strong sensation hitting him, Charles instead focuses his mind on the constructive.

"You say that it affects people's abilities. Do you know how it does that?"

He's discovering new things about the power of mutation every day, it seemed.

She thought about what it had done to her, and was quiet for a moment before responding. It was sort of hard to concentrate with all the... sex in her head. Arousal was starting to set in, but it wasn't anything she couldn't ignore for the moment.

"Normally I can't feel pain, and one time here I could. Sometimes I get drunk even though I'm not supposed to. It's like, if the hotel decides it'll help me... you know, do it, somehow, it just does whatever it wants. I also get way hornier than normal, but that happens to everyone. There's some sort of aphrodisiac in the air," Claire explained. Telepaths always both intrigued and scared her, and now she truly knew it wasn't an ability she'd ever want. God, how did Parkman put up with this?

The lack of pain was a blessing, because without it, she was sure her head would be pounding by now. As it was she was uncomfortable, to say the least. "Not to sound like a whiner or anything, but d'you know how to make it stop?"
