Zombies. The walking dead. Living corpses. Rika had only heard of them in comic books and movies, foolishly watching with wide-eyed fascination, only to later spend nights on end cowering beneath her covers for safety. But of course, they'd never exist in reality...
Except that now, this was her reality. She had first thought it was a pleasant dream; the idyllic blue skies and sandy beaches were all too picturesque, until she caught a whiff of charred flesh and saw a large man limping his way towards her, clutching the remains of a limb but completely undeterred by the wound. The dark trail of blood along the shoreline and the blank whiteness of his sole eye told her that he was beyond helping or reasoning with, and she had barely managed to avoid being snatched by hungry, decaying fingers only due to sheer speed, blind panic giving her the energy to outrun him. It. Whatever it was now.
The lifeguard station was still standing, though, and luckily it seemed sturdy enough to keep out of any undead...for now. It would at least give her some time, long enough for her to catch her breath, crouched behind a table and trembling, wiping her eyes with the cuff of her sleeve.
"W...what's going on? Rika doesn't understand...she wants to go h-home...!"
