"...Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the years of the rise of the Sons of Aryas there was an age undreamed of."

'And in that distant age, of warriors and monsters, from the darkness came Zenon. Born to a dark king of unholy appetites, and anointed with her mother's blood, Zenon grew in strength and cunning until she looked upon her father and saw not a king, but a rival. She slew him in the night, and claimed his throne for herself, beginning her trail of blood and conquest. No army could stand before her, no warrior dared face her in single combat, so great was her speed, so unerring her strikes. With bow, with axe, with sword and spear she had no equal upon the earth or in the heavens. Even the gods took notice, and trembled when she marched. She kenned secrets of sorcery, of dark powers that stained the soul, and used them to increase her might yet further. Warriors of dark intent gathered round her ankles, and wereguild filled her hall with gold and silver. Beasts and dragons fell, their bodies and bones decorating her fortress. She reforged her fathers crown to better suit her, and dressed in a warrior's garb, wearing armor forged from dragon scales and a cape of fur from beasts that had never been slain by warriors before her coming.

But there were things that were expected of the warrior queen. She had to hold court, she had to provide feasts for her warriors, she had to participate in the raids to show her strength and her ruthlessness. And if she didn't there were alternatives to that. If she couldn't join a raid herself, the prisoners could be brought to her for final dispensation. Some, she held for weeks or moths until they could be ransomed. Some she killed, and ate their hearts to gain their strength. Some of them, she took to her bed, finding them pleasing to her eye and worthy of a more gentle domination. What was certain, was that all the prisoners would be broken beneath her tread, as their nations and their kings had been broken.

Into her hall has been dragged yet another prisoner. Man or woman, it matters not. She will do as she pleases, and none can ever gainsay her.'

((Returning to the roots of the fairy tale, this is the setting of a Germanic epic poem, much like Beowulf or the Norse sagas. And maybe a bit of Sword and Sorcery thrown on the heap for good measure. NO happy endings here, just monsters, strong heroes of great cunning and mead that flows like water. Participants can be anything within the bounds of the story-kidnap victims, thieves seeking riches, heroes sneaking in to slay the cruel queen, wise men or women summoned to deal with some problem or swear fealty...whatever the case may be. And since this is the ancient predecessor of the fairy tale proper, most of those stories will end in sex. The ones that don't? Blood is quite likely. Blood and sex? Totally doable.))
