Additional Comm: Lifeboat Extras
I've created a sister-community for the_lifeboat, called lifeboat_xtras.
I know that I (and others) partake of using email and/or chat clients to run RP scenarios that develop characters and interpersonal relationships and the like. (Players do this for a variety of reasons: easy access to email, no access to LJ at work/school, a desire to truly keep an "encounter" private and limited until posted, etc.) Unfortunately, often times these "outside of the comm" side RPs do not get finished or completed in a timely manner, and might therefore go unposted, or when they are posted they seem "out-of-sync" with the RP chronologically. (For example, an exchange might start on Saturday, May 1 IC/in game, but by the time it is completed, IC/in-game time is Saturday May 14.) Rather than muddy the waters with these posts, I've created lifeboat_xtras.
lifeboat_xtras is for fan fiction, email RPs, and IM chats that supplement the game and character development but may disrupt the "time flow" of the game if posted out of order. The sorts of things posted to lifeboat_xtras should not be things that all (or a majority) of other players/characters need to know, or things that affect all (or a majority) of the other players/characters.
You will be able to watch the community and read all postings (unless they are marked friends only, which they should be if they veer into the territory of Adult/NC-17) without being a member. However, I do encourage everyone to join the comm and take advantage of the opportunities it presents.
