Everything has been placed behind an lj-cut to conserve space.

Character Name: Carson Beckett
Medium/Fandom/Etc: Television: Stargate Atlantis
Age: 38
Physical Description: A stout man of moderate height (5'8"/1.76 meters app.) with dark brown, almost black, hair (which some say, given his usual styling methods, gives him an extra inch or two in height). Despite a general healthy weight (163lbs) his face and abdomen hold extra padding giving him a slightly husky appearance. A beard of at least two day's growth usually stubble adorns the chin along with a quiet smile. Bright blue eyes and strong hands are probably the two most notable features.

Usual attire while on duty had been the uniform pants provided for the medical staff, a shirt (either blue or black) and the Medical Envoy jacket if not the long white lab coat provided all scientific staff. Personal attire was generally a pair of slacks and a dark shirt. Often times this was accompanied by a beige fishing vest but completely dependent on time allotted for leisurely activities. There are several pairs of jeans and shirts available but generally those worn outside are of the same variety unless it's chilly and then the plaid jackets and warmer sweaters are seen. The shoes run the gambit of hiking boots to loafers though, usually, it's a sturdy pair of dark boots with thick soles seen walking the length of the hospital's floors and the Gamma site's grounds. (Though let it be said he does have a penchant for going barefoot when it's warm enough and there is no shift to be attending. It isn't often and not for extended amounts of time, but happens on occasion.)

Occupation: Medical Doctor
Character History and Background: Born in Doune, a small community off the Firth of Lorn, Carson and his kin grew up among the bounty of fisherman and stockyards on the coasts. His family was embroiled in the trade and profession, having many an uncle who worked on or owned fishing haulers, Carson spent the better part of his youth learning the trade through brute experience and sheer osmosis, it seemed. It was shortly in his eighth year when his family moved from Doune to Airdrie just east of Glasgow where he spent the remainder of his childhood.

He was always a bright student and it showed in his marks throughout his school years and helped, along with glowing endorsements from various school personnel, secure him placement at St. Andrews University. Two years at St. Andrews, Carson then transferred to Bute where he did most of his undergraduate study for Phase 1 but then gained a placement at the University of Glasgow where he completed his BS upon which he applied for postgraduate study at Edinburgh. A stint at the University of Aberdeen secured him his degree in genetics.

Much later he traveled to the United States and obtained a work visa to further his study on an aberration he found in the human genome sequence. The Government took interest in Dr. Beckett's work and contracted him into the Stargate Program when this unknown gene was found to be linked to a race of humans that were believed to have come through the Stargate thousands of years ago. When the facility in Antarctica was found, Carson, and a select number of scientists both with and without the ATA gene, were sent there to uncover as much as they could.

Atlantis' discovery is a direct result of Carson's achievements in Genetics and was chosen for the expedition that would travel through the Stargate to the Lost City of the Ancients. He wasn't unwilling to go, for the most part, but quite cautious of the travel there - he doesn't put much faith in stepping through the wormhole and prefers to do it as little as possible if at all.

After being exiled back to Earth when the Ancients returned to Atlantis, Carson went back to Scotland where he planned to live out his life in the quiet stability of normal life. Unfortunately the Government of both his country and the United States had shuffled him into a category of people selected to be sent off-world through the now public Stargate Program to a 'lifeboat' colony.

He protested, at first, but ultimately submitted to the relocation project. It surprised him to find some familiar faces among those that were shifted off-world and soon he settled into the life on the site.

He spends most of his time working with other Doctors, Nurses, and Specialists at the make-shift hospital, and with builders and engineers that are working to build a more permanent facility, trying to make their little colony, for that is what it ultimately is, a little more civilized. His genetics work, for the moment, has been put on the back burner because of this but after the work he did on Atlantis still fresh in his mind and as so much ash on his tongue, he doesn't mind so much.

And surprisingly it isn't so hard to find a fishing partner when one finds the time to get to the river nearby...
