Ron knew what Jack had in mind and it would be a rare moment of pleasure for him. He had a pack of cooled beer (local produce, mind, so it was more like an ale than beer, but still appreciated by most of the people in gate town) and slung over his shoulder a well-looked after, but somewhat scuffed guitar.

"It certainly is..." he said gently, as he approached the pair. "Captain... Doctor..." he inclined his head to them both.

Then turned back to Jack "I should have suggested this sooner, but you beat me to the punch... I think we were too wrapped up in training details and such."

The mention of Ami's "superpowers" was a reminder to Vivian to be careful about what she thought. Ami said--and Vivian believed her--that she didn't snoop around in peoples' thoughts. But it was also true that sometimes she sensed things people were thinking "loudly" enough. One didn't have to eavesdrop to hear the neighbors shouting in the next tent, after all ( ... )

"I've always been much more of a pinochle, hearts or spades player," Ami admitted. "There's an element of randomness to poker that's never quite suited me."

Jack grinned at her, "And you don't ever cheat?"

Ami gasped, knowing his teasing, but still managing to react with suitable affront. "I don't cheat. The radio is off when it comes to that." Which was partly the truth. Ami didn't use her telepathic or empathic abilities intentionally when playing gambling or card games. She could count cards reasonably well, however; but she wasn't about to admit to that. Everyone needed to keep their own advantages. "Are we going to wait for Bobby and Darien or get started without them?"

James broke off his conversation with Teyla at Ami's question.

"There are six of us present," James said. His glance took in Teyla, Jack, Ron, Ami, Vivian--and himself. "More than enough to start playing. Bobby and Darien can join in later, after I've cleaned you lot out."

[O'Neill] Am I late? lost_mckay April 5 2009, 20:27:04 UTC
General Jack O'Neill knew how 'this' was done. How many times had General Hammond shown up at his cabin, ostensibly knowing that the rest of his team was also there? Share a beer, have some pizza, and talk, for the most part, off the record without having to worry about some of the barriers of work. Still in all, everyone was quite aware of their boundaries, and thankfully, other than a couple of times, no one had ever overstepped them ( ... )
