Off in the middle distance, across a clearing from the motorpool and points 'away' from the main settlement area, the doors of a large hanger moved slowly open, revealing the interior. A cylindrical object seemed to float above the floor before nosing its way out of the doors. Once completely outside, it began to rise in the air; rather than moving straight up, it edged its way, nose angled up, just as an aircraft would.
Slowly it rose, flying over the tents and pre-fab houses, over the motor pool, and as it rose, over the lad lying on his back, obscuring the sun for a brief moment, causing a shadow to cross him before it continued on its path up into the air.
In two? Way weird. Duo watched the object, the unknown flying.. UFO thing darting across his field of vision. He sat up and watched the object glide over head. - The Hell? Whatever it was, he didn't think it was good, and though it looked vaguely familiar, he didn' trust it. Figured it'd probably be a good thing to investigate.
He jumped to his feet and started following the path of the object, more to quell his curiosity then to maintain a sense of security for the community.
There were more than a few people who looked up, but there wasn't much in the way of concern. Curiosity, certainly, and the 'coolness' factor was up with a good portion of the 'youth', those out for lunch from classes. Adults were able to pull their attention from the skies; not that it was an every day occurrence, because it wasn't. It was just that, well, there were other things that needed attending. Once it was ascertained that it wasn't dangerous, that bit of weirdness simply flowed into the next
( ... )
Duo stood a few yards away from his tree, scanning the sky and letting his eyes follow the craft in the air. The thing was cool, and he wasn't all that familiar with the whole UFO thing. He only barely flinched when the voice came in from outside his field of vision. Girl, young, bout his age, he reasoned all before turning, letting his eyes fall on her.
He turned his attention back to the craft as he made his way to close the gap between them. After seemingly becoming bored with it, he looked at her evenly, a charming grin on his face. "Guesso. They put the idea of aliens in your head and all of a sudden anything that doesn't look like a f-19 or a carrier.. Well.. You get the idea.." he paused briefly, shoving his hands in the pockets of his grease stained pants. "That and bein' stuck in the work shop all day everyday doesn't help."
Cassandra was 22, though she did look younger. It could be her approach, her attitude, or... She hated it. She maintained that if she looked older, her family would treat her a little more like an adult, or so she reasoned. (It could be her approach and attitude!)
She nodded her head in agreement, the smile not fading. She was on her way to the labs to help the scientists-- Daniel had asked her to do some research for him while he was 'stuck' on a 'joyride'. Cassie actually thought it sounded neat, but being in a small spaceship with the three of them would have been... well... No. As much as she loved them all, no.
"Yeah.. but that's one for our side." She paused, "See that one, and we're okay."
Cassie canted her head, her brows rising slightly. "Work shop? Neat. You working with the project for fuel conversion?"
Duo, only 18, didn't really notice the approach and attitude as he noticed her curves and pretty face. He was staring for a few moments, before catching himself and standing up straight. Good default to go to, that.
"Guesso. Huh." Been a while since he decided to cut loose and abuse his breaks, but then again he didn't really have much to do besides go over plans for the fuel con- She mentions it? Cool.
"Did a few things with that, mostly anything actually putting parts together." He shoved a hand in his pocket, the other hand rising to his chin in consideration. Science never was his thing. "What do you do?"
Cassie canted her head, watching him.. and pulled her head back ever so slightly, nodding. "The labs are talking about that project. I figured that if you were working--" There'd be a better than even chance that the younger man had something to do with it
( ... )
"I only do what the boss tells me for now. Says I got all the stuff to become a genius mechanic.. just gotta get the rest of the worldly knowledge that I'll, even now, never use in real life." Duo grinned widely at his own words.
He took her hand, shaking it firmly with that expected feeling of dirt and grease on his finger tips. "Maxwell." he said dryly. "Duo Maxwell." Very bond like of him, no? He flashed her a dopey smile and pulled his hand away, shoving both into his pockets once again.
"Hm. I see." Duo replied, almost if he didn't really seem interested at first. "Least you got to go to college. Figure Air Force woulda' had me go but .. Well.. Circumstances- worse comes to worse and we become pioneers. Exciting, yet somber.." he seemed to consider this, then after a beat "I totally didn't come up with that, by the way."
Slowly it rose, flying over the tents and pre-fab houses, over the motor pool, and as it rose, over the lad lying on his back, obscuring the sun for a brief moment, causing a shadow to cross him before it continued on its path up into the air.
